Function documentationSubcontracting with the Rules-Based ATP Check Locate this document in the navigation structure

You can use this function to specify that subcontracting is to be performed in the substitute location for the ATP check of a sales document item in the location determination activity.

Integration

This function is converted using Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS).

SAP APO uses the following functions for subcontracting:

You cannot use subcontracting for scheduling agreements from sales.

Prerequisites

General Master Data
  • The substitute location to which the location determination activity that has activated subcontracting refers, is of the type Supplier.

  • You have created the finished product and all of its components for the locations involved (input location, supplier location, source location), and have assigned it to the active model.

  • You have created a production data structure (PDS) of usage P for the supplier location. The PDS must have the component as its input and the finished product as its output. For more information, see Production Data Structure Generated from R/3 Master Data.

Recommendation Recommendation

For a smooth integration between the ERP system and SAP SCM, we recommend that you transfer the SAP-SCM-specific master data from the ERP system using the integration model of the APO Core Interface (CIF).

End of the recommendation.
Customizing-Based Master Data for PP/DS
  • You have selected the standard planning procedure 5 in the product master for the location products involved. For more information, see Standard Planning Procedures.

  • You have selected the plan explosion 5 in the product master for the finished product in the supplier location.

  • You have created a scheduling horizon for the conversion of ATP tree structures. For more information, see Customizing for SAP Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM) under   Advanced Planning and Optimization   Supply Chain Planning   Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS)   Global Settings   Maintain Global Parameters and Defaults  .

Customizing-Based Master Data for Global ATP
  • You have activated the rules-based ATP check in the check instructions and made sure that calling production has not been set. For more information, see Customizing for SAP SCM under   Advanced Planning and Optimization   Global Available-to-Promise (Global ATP)   General Settings   Maintain Check Instructions  .

  • You have created a rule and configured the settings in such a way that the system can determine the supplier location for the finished product using the location determination procedure. For more information, see Rule.

  • You have assigned to the supplier location in the location determination procedure a location determination activity in which you have activated subcontracting. For more information, see Location Determination Procedure.

  • You have set the rules-based ATP check in such a way that the system can replace the supplier location for the component of the product with the input location or another source location. For more information, see Settings for the Rules-Based Availability Check.

Features

When you activate subcontracting, the system automatically activates stock transfer and direct production.

Caution Caution

The system is unable to perform Capable-to-Promise (CTP) for location products that are part of subcontracting.

End of the caution.

Activities

The system starts subcontracting by using a location determination as part of a rules-based ATP check in SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (SAP APO). During the check, the system does not generate any documents or orders. When you save the sales order, the system stores the check results in the form of ATP tree structures. You must convert the ATP tree structures in PP/DS using the report Conversion ATP Tree Structures –> Production Planning (/SAPAPO/RRP_ATP2PPDS), to enable the system to generate the following from the ATP tree structures:

  • Stock transport requisition for the finished product

  • Planned order and stock transfer reservation for each component involved

To call the report, on the SAP Easy Access screen of SAP SCM, choose   Advanced Planning and Optimization   Production Planning   Environment  .

Note Note

Depending on the scheduling horizon, the system can also convert the ATP tree structures automatically when saving the sales order.

End of the note.

After you integrate the SAP-SCM data back into the ERP system using CIF, you can find the information in the ERP system in the subcontract order document.

Example

Your company works together with different suppliers who may carry out minor installation work. You want it to happen in such a way that if the requested product is not available, the product assembly is automatically triggered in the distribution center for one of your suppliers, as part of subcontracting. The supplier can procure the required components from other locations or distribution centers.
