Monitoring and Managing Jobs
The job monitor is part of the Monitoring section in the navigation bar and gives a central overview of all jobs and their statuses on all managed servers in any queue. From the job monitor jobs can be monitored as they execute and you can perform a number of actions on the jobs. The job monitor displays a number of properties of jobs in columns, which can be customized, to give you an up-to-date overview of the jobs and their states.
The job monitor consists of two panes:
The job monitor pane displays a hierarchy of all jobs that match a chosen filter.
The job preview pane displays extensive run-time data of the currently selected job.
The preview pane will show job details. A diagram similar to the job chain edit diagram is available from the context menu for job chains. To view the details of a job chain or call, choose the job id.
Note
On clusters with multiple nodes, job id's are not necessarily sequential in time. Each node in the cluster will have arrange of job id's.
When you edit a job, you can change the scheduled start time, queue or other properties of a single job, as long as it has not reached the Running status. This is done, using the actions under Scheduling.
You can also edit the properties for jobs of a recurrence; this is done using the actions under Recurrence. Changes performed on a job in the recurrence, regardless of its status, will generally have effect on all jobs of the recurrence that have not reached the Running state at the time of the change. If you want control over which jobs are affected, put the job on Held to make sure you have enough time to perform the change. Once you have finished adapting the recurrence, do not forget to release all jobs you held.
Jobs support the basic actions of Help, Refresh, Close tab, and Close all other tabs.
Jobs have additional actions:
Action |
Description |
Remove Old Jobs |
Remove old jobs that have reached a final status |
Add Note |
Add a note to the job |
Explain Job Status |
Explain the current job status, only works if the current job status is Queued |
Recurrence > Delete Recurrence |
Delete the jobs of the job group that have reached a final status. |
Recurrence > Edit Recurrence |
Edit scheduling data of the job group. |
Recurrence > Hold Recurrence |
Pause the recurrence; this can be performed on any job of the job group regardless of its status. |
Recurrence > Release Recurrence |
Resumes a paused recurrence. |
Recurrence > Cancel Recurrence |
End a recurrence. |
Recurrence > Restart Recurrence |
Create a new job group with the recurrence. |
Scheduling > Edit |
Edit scheduling data of the job. To edit a job, the job must be in an initial state, not Running. |
Scheduling > Resubmit |
submit a new job based on this job (same definition, parameters, and so on). This will pop up the new window to edit the values before the job is submitted. |
Scheduling > Hold |
this will hold the job, preventing it from being executed until it is manually released. |
Scheduling > Release |
this will release the job, allowing it to be executed automatically when all its scheduling constraints are met. |
Scheduling > Enable |
this enables a previously disabled job chain step or call. |
Scheduling > Disable |
this disables a previously enabled job chain step or call. |
Scheduling > Kill |
kill a running job by sending it a signal to stop running. Killing a job may not always be instantaneous. |
Scheduling > Cancel |
cancel a job that has not yet started running. This will prevent the job from ever starting. |
Scheduling > Restart |
submit a new job based on this job (same definition, parameters, and so on). This will submit the job immediately, without prompting. |
Scheduling > Cancel recurrence |
Cancel all recurrences of the job (if the job is submitted with a recurrence). |
Show diagram |
Show the job in a diagram, useful for job chains and SAP process chains. |
Delete |
Delete the job, it has to be in a final state. If its state is pre-running, you must cancel it first. If the job is running, you must kill it before you can delete it. |
New Alert Rule |
Allows you to create a new alert rule for the job with a default Name and Name Pattern. |
Get Support Files |
Allows you to retrieve the log files that might help you troubleshoot a problem. Only available for jobs that have not reached status Completed. |
Filter > Create Filter |
Create a job filter |
Filter > Edit Filter |
Edit the current job filter |
Filter > Delete Filter |
Delete the current job filter |
The detail pane shows the different values listed in the Values section below. Among these are Job files, which can be viewed, downloaded, and deleted once the job has completed.
