Function documentationUpdate of the Customer Back-End with Work Order Data

SAP Supply Network Collaboration (SAP SNC) can automatically send the following messages to the customer back-end system:

  • Work order information (WOI)

Using this message, SAP SNC sends the complete work order to the customer back-end system. To transmit the message, SAP SNC uses an XML message of type ManufacturingWorkOrderInformation.

  • Production progress notification (PPN)

Using this message, SAP SNC sends delta quantities for the actual phase inputs or phase outputs to the customer back-end system. The delta quantity for an actual phase input or phase output is the quantity by which the actual PIO quantity has changed since the last PPN was sent. To transmit the message, SAP SNC uses an XML message of type ManufacturingWorkOrderProductionProgressNotification. The back-end system can use the data to track the production progress.

    Note Note

For an SAP ERP system, enhancement package 4 for SAP ERP 6.0 is required and you must have activated the LOG_MM_OM_01 business function.

    End of the note.

Features

In the work order configuration, you can determine separately for work order informations and for production progress notifications whether and when SAP SNC creates and sends a message. The following options are available to you:

  • The message can never be created and sent, neither automatically nor manually.

  • The system creates the message when the supplier or the customer reports that a phase has been completed.

  • The system creates the message each time the supplier or customer creates or changes an actual phase input or phase output and saves the work order.

If you allow the creation of work order information messages using the second and third option in the list above, the system also sends a work order information message when the customer and supplier have agreed on the contents of the work order, that is, the work order receives the status Content in Agreement (CIAG).

Recommendation Recommendation

For performance reasons, and to save database space, let the system only create messages when you really need them for your process. Therefore, determine the option in accordance with your process requirements.

End of the recommendation.

Activities

Creating PPNs Not Only on Phase Completion

In the work order configuration, you can determine that the system creates and sends a PPN automatically upon phase completion only (see above). However, you, as a customer, can trigger the creation of a PPN manually before phase completion any time. To do so, use the Save/Send Progress Report Notification function on the Work Order Details screen.

Resolving Issues

The automatic creation of an XML message for a work order information message or a production progress notification can fail or an XML message can be deleted accidentally. To resolve this issue, you, as a customer, can trigger the creation and sending of the message as follows:

  • For work order information messages, you can use the Save/Send Work Order Information function on the Work Order Details screen (customer view). You can only use the function if work order configuration allows work order informations to be created. If you call up the function, the system saves the work order and creates the work order information XML message (even if you have determined in the WO configuration that the work order information is only to be sent on phase completion and not each time when you save the work order).

  • For production progress notifications, you can use the Generate and Send XML Messages for Production Progress Notifications (/SCA/WO_PROD_PROGRESS_RESEND) report. You use it to create XML messages for existing PPNs. (In work order configuration, you need to have allowed the creation of production progress notifications.)

Updating the Inventory in SAP SNC

When sending a PPN, SAP SNC also updates the inventory data in SAP SNC accordingly. For more information, see Update of Inventory Data for Work Order Collaboration.
