Purpose

This section describes how you can use ON-Bar , ON-Archive , or ontape to back up the logical-log files of your Informix database. For more information, see Informix Logical-Log Backup.

Prerequisites

You have decided which tool you are going to use for logical-log backup. Refer to Comparison of ontape, ON-Archive, and ON-Bar for Data Recovery.

Caution

You must use the same tool for logical-log backup as you do for database backup or archive. You cannot use different tools because the data produced is not compatible.

You have completed the preparations for logical-log backup with your chosen tool:

Process Flow

  1. You decide which approach to use:
  2. - Approach to Logical-Log Backup (ON-Bar)

    - Approach to Logical-Log Backup (ON-Archive)

    - Approach to Logical-Log Backup (ontape)

  3. You identify your requirements and make sure that they are met:
  4. - Requirements for a Logical-Log Backup (ON-Bar)

    - Requirements for a Logical-Log Backup (ON-Archive)

    - Requirements for a Logical-Log Backup (ontape)

  5. You create the logical-log backup:

- Creation of a Logical-Log Backup (ON-Bar)

- Creation of a Logical-Log Backup (ON-Archive)

- Creation of a Logical-Log Backup (ontape)

Result

You now have a backup of your logical log, which you can use in the event of failure to restore the database.
