Activating Monitoring for Global Work Modes

To control the execution of EEMon scripts, activate the monitoring for selected work modes. The work modes are defined by the administrator of the technical system. For more information, see Managing Work Modes.

You can configure EEMon as follows, depending on work modes:

Activating or deactivating EEMon for work modes

To activate or deactivate monitoring, you can change the default settings.

Example Example

During the non-business hours, background jobs perform day-end closing activities. You want to prevent EEMon from performing business transactions which might disturb these activities.

You want to disable the monitoring temporarily during peak business hours, due to a foreseen performance bottleneck.

By default, monitoring is activated for the following work modes:

Peak business hours
Non-peak business hours
Non-business hours

By default, monitoring is deactivated for the following work modes:

Planned downtimes
Maintenance

Activating monitoring but suppressing alerting for certain scripts

The default settings allow you to monitor the systems of your EEMon scenarios permanently, except for planned downtimes and maintenance times. Under certain circumstances it may make sense to activate monitoring while suppressing alerting. You want, for example, to be informed about the status of systems during non-business hours but do not want incidents to be generated and so you want to deactivate alerting.

You can suppress alerting for EEMon scripts which simulate certain business scenarios. You cannot deactivate alerting globally for a work mode.

Deactivating the downtime work mode for certain EEMon scripts temporarily

Deactivating the downtime work mode for certain EEMon scripts can be useful, if you want, for example, to be informed about the actual start and end of planned downtimes of a certain system.

Do the following:

Keep the global standard settings (EEMon deactivated during planned downtimes, for all systems).
Define one or more EEMon scripts, depending on the systems you want to monitor, for which the global work mode settings do not apply and which you want to be executed permanently.

Defining local work modes

To fine-tune the EEMon, you can define local work modes. This is useful in global organizations, in which the availability of a system to the end user depends on the time zone of the user. For more information, see Defining Local Work Modes for SLA Reporting.

Procedure

Activating or Deactivating Monitoring

In the Configure Infrastructure step, choose the Work Mode Settings substep.
To enable EEMon for a work mode, under Monitoring Settings for Work-modes of monitored Scenarios/Systems, select the Monitoring Enabled checkbox.

During the time defined in the work mode, the EEM robots execute the EEMon scripts without interruption.

Caution Caution

Monitored times assigned to the Peak Business Hours and Business Hours work modes are always relevant for SLA reporting.

Suppressing alerting

In the Altering step, choose the Work Mode Settings substep.
On the Scripts tab page, select the EEMon Script.
On the Alerts tab page, select the Suppress Alert checkbox for the work mode(s).
Save your entries.

Deactivating the downtime work mode for some EEMon scripts

Caution Caution

If you deactivate downtimes on EEMon script level, the EEMon script is executed permanently. It is not subject to any global work mode settings. For example, the EEMon script is also executed during maintenance times when no user activities are allowed.

Only deactivate the downtime work mode temporarily.

Note Note

For technical reasons, you cannot suppress alerting for EEMon scripts for which you have deactivated the downtime work mode.

In the Script Management step, choose the Assign Script substep.
Select the EEMon script which you want to be exectuted during planned downtimes.
Select the No Downtime checkbox.
Save your entries.
