Function documentationUsage of the KPI Catalog in Dashboard Builder

 

Dashboards can display large amounts of information in a concise form, to give you a quick overview of its topics. For creating and displaying dashboards, SAP provides Dashboard Builder in SAP Solution Manager.

In Dashboard Builder, in addition to displaying delivered dashboards, you can also create your own dashboards and tiles. In a tile you visualize a KPI as a chart. If you create a tile with a customer-specific KPI, you need to specify all properties of the tile from the name through the visualization to data retrieval manually (see Creating and Editing Tiles).

However, you also have the KPI catalog available when creating tiles.

You can search for suitable KPIs in the KPI catalog and select the desired KPI. Depending on the selected KPI, in Dashboard Builder, in addition to the name and description of the KPI, visualization information and the required data source are also usually entered automatically, such that ideally values of the KPI are displayed in Dashboard Builder immediately without any further configuration effort.

However, to display useful data, it is often necessary to set filters in Dashboard Builder, to restrict the values to be displayed to the desired areas. However, the KPI does not contain all technical data for every KPI, meaning that you need to make some additional settings.

Activities

To display a KPI from the KPI catalog in a Dashboard Builder tile, proceed as follows:

  1. Start Dashboard Builder, as described in Dashboard Builder, and choose the dashboard to which you would like to add a tile.

  2. Choose the + pushbutton Standard Tile to open the tile configuration window. You are now on the screen Add New KPI.

  3. The KPI catalog is called. You now have all options for searching for and displaying KPIs available.

  4. In the overview view, choose the radio button of the desired KPI and the OK pushbutton. You are on the Add New KPI screen again.

  5. Depending on the KPI selected, in addition to the name and description, visualization information (chart type, size, unit), the associated data source, and additional parameters are also transferred from the KPI catalog, meaning that you do not need to enter any additional parameters yourself.

    To restrict the data to be displayed in tile to a useful area, it often makes sense to create additional filters.

  6. Save the tiles and close the tile configuration screen. The tile with the chart for the KPI is displayed.
