Procedure documentationDefining Global Filters

In Dashboard Builder, you usually specify filters and filter values at tile level when you configure the tile (see Creating and Editing Tiles). However, you can also define a global filter at dashboard level, which applies to all tiles in the dashboard. When displaying the dashboard, you can change the value of this global filter without making any changes to the configuration of the dashboard or its tiles.

Note Note

One advantage of a global filter is that you can also use it in the display mode of Dashboard Builder (see Displaying Dashboards and Tiles).

End of the note.

A typical use case for a global filter is the selection of a period, which applies to all tiles in the dashboard, whereby you can compare different KPIs for a certain period quickly.

Procedure

To define a global filter for a dashboard, proceed as follows:

  1. Select a dashboard.

  2. Choose the Edit Dashboard pushbutton.

  3. On the screen Edit Dashboard, select the Global Filters checkbox and choose the Edit pushbutton next to the checkbox.

The new Define Global Filters screen is displayed.

  4. Each KPI in the dashboard has a data source. To define a global filter, you need to group the semantically identical fields of these data sources so that the values of these fields are set when the user defines the value of the global filter. These fields often have the same names in the different data sources, but this is not a prerequisite.

Specify one data source as the direct source of the global filter, by selecting it from the dropdown list box Direct Source of Global Filters.

    Note Note

The direct source filters the value source if you want to use the input help to search for available values.

    End of the note.
  5. To specify the filter, choose the Add Line pushbutton in the header of the table. In the first row of the table, the fields of the direct source are listed in a dropdown list box. Select the field to use as a filter.

  6. In the next rows, the fields of the other data sources are listed. Again, select the fields to use as a filter.

  7. You can define available operators in the Operator Selection column by choosing the input help of the Operator Selection input field. These operators are available to the end user to specify a value for the global filter when displaying the dashboard.

  8. You can set a Default Value for the global filter directly or using input help.

  9. You can set the Time Rolling status by choosing the corresponding pushbutton, if the global filter is a time value. If activated, time rolling is enabled for the default value. The default values are shifted such that the relative time offset remains unchanged.

  10. Save your settings.

Result

You have defined a global filter. When you display your dashboard, you can choose the Global Filter pushbutton at the top of the dashboard to display or edit the global filter fields and default values.
