Function documentationUsage of the KPI Catalog in the Cross-Database Comparison

You can use the cross-database comparison (CDC) to compare content of databases to check the data consistency in your systems. You check whether the data is consistent in the source and target systems, for example, whether updates in the source system have been replicated to the target system correctly. Even though the data sources must contain the same data logically, they can have different values once they have been forwarded to a different system, for example, from an ERP system to a CRM system.

You thereby use data models that contain the information on which data fields from which sources are to be compared.

The KPI catalog contains specific examples of such data models with all necessary technical information. So you use the catalog to search for specific, required comparisons, for example, for materials that exist in the CRM system but not in the ERP system, or vice versa. After selecting this data model from the KPI catalog, the technical information required to perform such a comparison is transferred from the catalog to the CDC application.

Activities

To call the KPI catalog from the application for the cross-database comparison and select a particular data model (and thereby a particular comparison), proceed as follows:

  1. In your SAP Solution Manager system, start the CDC application in the launchpad. The Cross-Database Comparison tile is in the Business Process Operations area.

    Note Note

Alternatively, you can also start the application in SAP Easy Access Menu, using transaction code DSWP_CDC_UI.

    End of the note.
  2. Switch to the Comparison tab and create a new comparison by choosing the Create (Create) pushbutton.

  3. In the Comparison field, enter a technical name of your choice for the comparison and choose ENTER.

  4. You can now enter additional information for the comparison that you create (see Creating Comparisons). The majority of these fields are optional, however, you must enter a technical name of your choice from the customer namespace for the data model in the Data Model field. Then also choose ENTER.

  5. From the Export/Import (Export/Import) dropdown list box, choose the Import Data Model from Central Catalog entry.

  6. The KPIs from the KPI catalog for the cross-database comparison are displayed. In the overview view, choose the radio button for the desired comparison; the detail view contains all necessary information for the respective comparison on the various tabs.

  7. Choose the OK pushbutton to confirm your selection; you have thereby transferred the data model for your comparison.

  8. To be able to use the comparison, you must specify a source type with the necessary parameters in the source system and target system. For the data models available in the KPI catalog, this is usually SAP ABAP System (RFC for Generic Extractor), for which you then need only specify an RFC destination from your SAP Solution Manager system in the source system and in the target system.

  9. To restrict the results to a useful area for the comparison, also set Comparison-Specific Filters.

  10. Save the comparison. For more information about creating and evaluating comparisons, see Comparison and Evaluating Comparisons.
