You can use the business process analytics to monitor various key figures and analyze them graphically. These key figures give an overall picture of business process operations in all systems that are required to run your core business processes. This enables you to identify and locate current operational problems, as well as optimize your business processes.

Dashboard Builder also uses Business Process Analytics as the type of data source, meaning that you can display the corresponding data in the tiles.

Features

To create a tile with a data source of the business process analysis, first proceed as described in Creating and Editing Tiles, meaning that you choose the Customer-Specific Tile pushbutton (+) to open the window for the tile configuration. Choose the Business Process Analytics entry as the Data Source Type. Depending on for which area of the business process analysis you would like to create a tile, you have various connectors available.

Creating Tiles for Cross-Database Comparison

Use the CDC_default connector to display data for the cross-database comparison application (Cross Database Comparison = CDC).

You can use transaction DSWP_CDC_UI or the launchpad to start this application (the tile is located in the Business Process Operations group).

To be able to display results of the cross-database comparison in tiles, you need to have set up and performed the corresponding comparisons in the application mentioned above. The comparisons are based on data models that you can also create and display in the CDC application. These models specify which data is to be checked when performing a comparison. Specify the desired data model as a data source in the tile configuration.

The result of the last run of a comparison is then displayed in the Dashboard Builder tile created in this way. This result is also displayed in the CDC application when you select the corresponding comparison in the Comparison Overview and choose the Display Last Result pushbutton. The comparison result is output in the Results Overview; the chosen visualization in Dashboard Builder must suit the structure of this Results Overview.

Creating Tiles for BW-Based Business Process Analytics

If in a business process optimization project, you continuously work on improving the key figures relevant for this, you typically collect the data for these key figures regularly and write this data to Business Warehouse so that the historic trend of these key figures is also available.

The connector BPA_TwinCube is relevant for this scenario. There can be more than one connector instance for a connector. The instance BPA_TwinCube_default is generated automatically for the connector mentioned when you start the business process analytics for the first time and you have not created any custom instances manually.

To display connectors and connector instances, call the tile Configuration - Dependency Diagram in the launchpad in the Business Process Operations group. Choose the Maintain Connector Instances pushbutton.

Therefore, to display key figures for this scenario in Dashboard Builder, choose the BPA_TwinCube_default instance as the connector in tile configuration. You can select all key figures for which you have activated the regular collection of data as the data source - both default and customer-specific key figures.

After you have specified the data source, use the Monitoring ID to select the monitoring object for which you want to display the key figure. To display the monitoring objects available for the key figure, choose the input help for the Monitoring ID.

Almost all default key figures are described in detail in the KPI catalog, so if the name of the data source does not contain sufficient information, search for this name in the KPI catalog.

Creating Tiles for Ad Hoc Analytics

In addition to the BW-based analytics, you can also perform ad hoc analytics, for which the data is not collected regularly and written to Business Warehouse, rather is read from the managed system for each analysis or call of the dashboard. Therefore, for this scenario, you also need to specify the system and the client from which the data is to be read. The connector BPM_HANA_SUITE is relevant for this scenario.

An instance is not generated automatically for this connector. On the Maintain Connector Instances screen (see above), create the required connector instance, whereby you also create a list with valid system-client combinations for the ad hoc analytics.

Therefore, to display key figures for this scenario in Dashboard Builder, enter the instance that you created for the connector BPM_HANA_SUITE as the connector in tile configuration. You can select all key figures that were imported into the managed systems via ST-A/PI and whose metadata was uploaded into SAP Solution Manager as the data source.

Display as Monetary Value

You have an additional function available for different data sources of the type Business Process Analytics. If you select at least the size 2x2 for the corresponding tile, you can choose the Monetary Value entry from the Unit dropdown list box.

The displayed values are thereby interpreted as monetary values and you can specify both the currency in which the values are to be displayed and the exchange rate type with which the details of the conversion are determined.
