In the Downgrade Protection dialog box, you can display information related to potential downgrades and conflicts.

Prerequisites

The system has performed a downgrade check. Downgrade checks are performed automatically when a transport is carried out, but you can also trigger them manually from the Downgrade Protection dialog box.

Features

  • Whenever the system identifies conflicts related to downgrade protection, the conflict types are displayed along with the criticality of a conflict. The following conflict types are possible:

    • Downgrade warning

      When exporting transports (changes), you are notified of identical objects that have not been imported into the productive system yet.

    • Imminent downgrade

      When importing transports (changes), you are notified of identical objects that have been released later and have already been imported.

    • Overtaker warning

      When importing transports (changes), you are notified of identical objects that have been released earlier, but have not been imported yet.

    You can assign a conflict type to a check type in Customizing for SAP Solution Manager under Start of the navigation path Capabilities (Optional) Next navigation step Change Control Management Next navigation step Quality Gate Management Next navigation step Cross-System Object Lock and Downgrade Protection Next navigation step Configure Downgrade Protection End of the navigation path. For each check type, you can configure the conflict criticality.

    For example, if you set the conflict type for the release check to Warning, the system displays any conflicts found when releasing a transport request as warnings.

  • The status of the conflict is displayed. Open means that the conflict has not been handled yet. When you explicitly ignore a conflict, the status changes to Ignored.

  • You can display details for each conflict by clicking the number in the Conflicts column. The details screen contains further information about the conflict, for example, the source transport and the objects involved.

  • You can ignore conflicts individually by choosing the Ignore Conflicts pushbutton. You can also ignore several conflicts at the same time by selecting the relevant ones.

  • If you choose to ignore a conflict, you can enter any supporting information regarding your decision in the comments box. This information is visible to anyone who can view the change.

  • In the Downgrade Protection dialog box, you can trigger a downgrade check manually for the change and therefore recheck it. Choose Refresh to display the check results.
