Procedure documentationCreating a Tile

In the Dashboard Builder, a tile is a part of a dashboard. It usually visualizes one KPI in one chart. To create a tile, provide the following information about the KPI and its visualization:

  • Information about the KPI (type and name of the KPI, description and unit)

  • Information how to visualize the KPI (like chart type or tile size)

  • Information about the data supply of the KPI

Note Note

The KPI is normally visualized as a tile and a detail view (see Creating a Drill-Down View). For information about how to create a dashboard, see Creating a Dashboard.

End of the note.

Procedure

To add a tile to an existing dashboard, proceed as follows:

  1. Choose the dashboard.

  2. Choose the Add new tile button (+) to open the tile configuration window. You are now in the screen Add New KPI.

  3. Fill in the following property fields of this tile.

    Property

    Description

    KPI Type

    There are three types

    • Standard

A standard, SAP-delivered KPI from the KPI Catalog in the Cloud. Choose the button Search in KPI catalog. The KPI Catalog is displayed; search for a KPI there, select it, and choose OK. Depending on the KPI you choose, Data Source Type, Data Source Name and Available Fields are filled automatically.

    • Custom

Use this type to create a tile for your custom KPI. You have to maintain all property fields manually.

    • KPI Group

This type is used to classify KPIs into groups.

    Name

    Subhead

    Description

Enter title, subtitle and a short description of the tile. These properties are displayed when the tile is displayed.

    Visualization

    Size

    Unit

Specify an appropriate chart type, a relative chart size (1x1 or 1x2 or or 1x2) and the unit of the KPI.

    Note Note

Depending on the chart type, the data source has to return a single number, a series of numbers, or a two-dimensional numerical table.

    End of the note.

    Data Source Type

    Data Source Name

Three types of data source are supported:

    • Function module (for more information, see Using a Function Module as Data Source)

    • BW query

    • Business Process Analytics

Business Process Analytics is an analysis repository which contains many pre-defined business process key figures, e. g. sales order, inventory, etc. By setting up connectors, data can be extracted from managed systems to database tables or BW cubes in the SAP Solution Manager, or be retrieved in real-time.

    Detail Page Template

The detail page is displayed when the user chooses the tile. The detail page may consist of several views. Choose one of the four available templates:

    • Drill-Down views

This template is composed of multiple views, which you can choose from a dropdown list box, so there is always one visualization displayed.

    • Panel views

This template is composed of multiple panels - in each panel you can create a visualization, so all visualizations are always displayed.

    • Generic analytics application

This is a generic FPM-BICS (BI Consumer Service) template, which is an ad-hoc analysis tool based on the Floorplan Manager (FPM).

    • None

Choose this entry, if you don't want to display a detail page.

  4. After filling the data source field, press the Enter key to activate the data source configuration view. Depending on the data source, a list of Available Fields is displayed. From this list, specify the fields to be displayed in Rows and Colums.

For the characteristics in Available Fields, Rows and Columns, you can set a filter value, by choosing the context menu of the characteristic, and selecting Start of the navigation path Filter Next navigation step Select Filter Value End of the navigation path. In the screen Define Filter Values, you can maintain the filter operator and the value.

If the field for which you create a filter is a time value, you can choose between static value (the filter period always remains the same) and time window rolling pattern (the filter period will shift so that the relative time offset will remain unchanged).

    Note Note

For tiles with the visualization Number-based (one numerical value is displayed, not a chart), you can define a threshold value, by choosing the context menu of the characteristic, and selecting Start of the navigation path Threshold definition Next navigation step Threshold definition End of the navigation path. In the screen Define Threshold, you can define the threshold value.

    End of the note.
  5. To save the tile configuration, choose Save. In a selection screen, you are asked for a transport request. Choose an existing transport request or create a new one, then choose OK (for more information, see Transporting a Dashboard).

  6. To create the detail page, choose your newly created tile, and you will go to the detail page template. Choose the button Add New Tile, and enter the properties in the configuration dialog, analogously to the procedure above (for more information, see Creating a Drill-Down View).

Result

You have created a new tile of an existing dashboard. The tile will be displayed when the dashboard is called.
