Using the XML iView Wizard
You use the XML iView Wizard to create XML iViews in the portal.
The wizard enables you to define the following:
● Basic properties of the iView, such iView name, ID, and namespace.
● The URL from which the iView retrieves its XML source.
● The XML transformer that converts the input XML source to a supported output format. Each XML transformer is able to handle a specific source format and an output format.
Once you have created the iView, you can edit it in the XML iView Editor. In the editor, you can modify the basic settings previously defined in the wizard, and define more advanced settings, such as configuring URL and XML transformer parameters, defining a sequence of multiple XML transformations, and selecting a pre-configured system to facilitate user mapping. See XML iView Editor.
● You have the necessary portal permissions to create content in the portal.
● You have the necessary portal permissions to use the XML iView template.
● Although the wizard does provide a built-in browser that enables you to navigate and choose the URL of the XML source, it is recommended you first familiarize yourself with the Web site and its content using your own Web browser.
Note that is not mandatory to use the built-in browser to choose the source URL; if you know the URL, you can type it in manually.

1. Launch the iView Wizard, as described in Launching the iView Wizard and General Information.
2. Choose iView template as the source type.
3. Choose the standard iView template: XML iView

The location of the default iView template in the Portal Catalog is: Portal Content → Templates → Template iViews. You may create copies of this default template and then choose to create new XML iViews from them.
4. In the General Properties screen, define the basic properties of the iView. For more information, see Launching the iView Wizard and First Steps.
5. Choose Next to continue.
6. Follow the instructions for each step, detailed in the table below. An asterisk in the user interface indicates mandatory fields.

Additional Information |
Define URL of XML Source |
In the XML Source box, enter the URL returning the XML source on the Web. Alternatively, click Browse to open the portal’s built-in browser window. In the browser you can navigate to a Web page returning the XML source. |
For important information about using the built-in browser, see Selecting the XML Source: After the wizard has finished, you can define and edit parameters associated with the URL in the XML iView Editor. In the editor, you can also change the URL. |
Select XML Transformation Format |
In the Available XML Transformers list, choose the applicable XML transformer to be used by the portal at runtime to parse the input XML format. |
The wizard allows you to select only a single XML transformer. However, once you have created the XML iView, you can edit the iView in the XML iView Editor, and add more transformers; thus, defining a multiple format conversion sequence (referred to as a transformation pipe).
If you choose a standard XML transformer which outputs to XHTMLB (for example, RSS_TO_XHTMLB), the XHTMLBSAXHandler XML transformer will be added to the transformation pipe. The XHTMLBSAXHandler XML transformer is required to convert XHTML to HTMLB so that the content is presentable at runtime in an iView. In the editor, you also have the option to configure additional parameters that are specific to each XML transformer. For more detailed information, see Defining the XML Transformation. |
7. In the Summary Details step, review the options you selected for the new iView. To make changes, choose Back until you return to the appropriate screen.
8. Click Finish to create the iView.
You have created an iView that retrieves its content from an XML source on the Web.

The new iView is linked to the standard XML iView template through a delta link relationship.
To configure additional settings and modify the settings you defined in the wizard, edit the iView in the XML iView Editor (see XML iView Editor).
If needed, you may edit additional iView properties that are not related to the URL, such as iView height and tray properties, in the Property Editor. See also XML iView Properties.
