Job Scheduling Management enables you to request, document, schedule, and monitor all background jobs in your system environment from a central location, with a standardized workflow.

Implementation Considerations

  • Configure the Job Management scenario in SAP Solution Manager Configuration (transaction solman_setup).

  • Make additional required settings in Customizing for SAP Solution Manager under   Capabilities (Optional)   Job Scheduling Management  .

  • Add solutions for the background processing business processes to the SAP Solution Manager Solution Directory.

Integration

Job Scheduling Management is integrated with the following scenarios:

  • Business Process Monitoring for documenting the monitoring of jobs

  • IT Service Management for handling job requests

  • Change Request Management for handling job requests

To use this integration, you must configure the corresponding scenarios.

Features

Job Requests

Business end users and key users create basic or detailed job requests when they want to schedule a new job, change an existing job, or delete a job.

Job requests undergo an end-to-end approval and implementation process, supported by the IT Service Management and Change Request Management process infrastructures.

For more information, see Job Requests.

Job Documentation

Job documentation is the central object of the Job Scheduling Management standard. It allows you to centrally manage, schedule, and document in detail the background processing of your entire system landscape.

You create structured documentation of the following business and technical properties of background jobs:

  • Job steps

  • Job-automated business process steps and the corresponding system, using the logical component

  • Business requirements, priority, and responsible organization

  • Scheduling parameters

  • Monitoring configuration

  • Error-handling procedures

  • Authorizations

  • Contacts and responsibilities

You can do the following:

  • Schedule jobs in managed systems from job documentation

  • Import job data, including scheduling parameters, from managed systems into job documentation

  • Use templates to simplify the creation of job documentation and ensure consistency

For more information, see Job Documentation.

Job Scheduling
  • Centralized job scheduling from SAP Solution Manager to connected SAP systems, with or without job documentation

  • Documentation of all job scheduling parameters, supported by automatic data transfer from connected SAP systems

  • Optional, user-specific activation of job control to redirect users to SAP Solution Manager when they try to schedule or change jobs using scheduling transactions such as SM36 or SM37. For more information, see Job Control for Managed Systems.

For more information, see Job Scheduling.

Job Monitoring and Alerting

You can monitor business-critical background jobs in the following contexts:

  • Solution, business processes, and interfaces

  • Technical systems and technical scenarios

Monitoring objects collect data in your managed systems and report it back to SAP Solution Manager. You set up monitoring objects that specify a set of key figures and thresholds for alerting, and you configure the creation of incidents and notifications for handling job alerts. You can configure and document the monitoring of jobs in job documentation.

For more information, see Job Monitoring and Alerting.
