 Number Range Monitoring

Use

In a distributed system landscape, you have to ensure for many application areas that numbers are assigned for objects across the systems without overlaps. You do so by defining disjunctive number range intervals.

You can carry out the following steps centrally from a given system (usually the central system or an administration system in your system landscape):

  • Check whether conflicts exist between the number range intervals in the systems of your system landscape

  • Use reservations to plan cross-system number range intervals without overlaps

  • Navigate from the central system to the other systems and define the required number range intervals on the basis of the reservations

Define the number range intervals at the earliest possible time, either when you set up a new system or before you use number range objects that have not previously been used.

Prerequisites

You are familiar with the standard system functions for defining number ranges. For more information, see SAP Library at Start of the navigation path SAP NetWeaverLibrary Next navigation step SAP NetWeaver by Key Capability Next navigation step Application Platformby Key Capability Next navigation step ABAP Technology Next navigation step ABAP Workbench(BC-DWB) Next navigation step BC Extended Applications Function Library Next navigation step Number Ranges End of the navigation path .

In the central system of your system landscape, you have defined which systems of your landscape are to be included in number range monitoring. You do so in Customizing for Defense Forces & Public Security by choosing Start of the navigation path Distributed System Landscape Next navigation step Specify Systems for Number Range Check End of the navigation path .
