Purpose

The Integrating Repositories process contains configuration tasks that the implementation team performs.

You can use repository managers to integrate the various heterogeneous data stores at your company in the portal. The selection of various services determines the scope of follow-on processes.

Using the Process

This IT process is part of the following IT scenario:

Prerequisites
  • The Enterprise Portal (EP) usage type has been installed.
  • The stand-alone engine Search and Classification (TREX) has been installed.
  • The initial configuration steps for Knowledge Management and TREX have been completed.
  • There is a list of the data stores (repositories) that are to be integrated in the portal using repository managers and a corresponding comparison of the repository managers available from SAP and partners.
Note

If there are gaps in the comparison of the repository managers available and those required, Knowledge Management provides APIs for developing additional repository managers.

Process Flow

The following IT process is incorporated in the Enterprise Portal (EP) usage type:

  1. Configure repository manager.

For each external data store that you want to integrate in the portal, choose the appropriate repository manager and specify the server addresses and other parameters.

If you do not want to store documents created in the future in external systems, you can use the CM repository manager delivered by SAP. This provides the largest scope of functions. You can configure it in such a way that documents and metadata are stored entirely in the database.

    Note

Note that a CM repository manager is already created in the standard system (/documents).

To check whether the repository managers are configured correctly, you can use the component monitor.

  2. Assign repository services.

In the configuration of each repository manager, choose the repository services that are to be implemented in subsequent processes in this repository.

  3. Check services.

Check whether all required global services are active and correctly configured in Knowledge Management.

To check the services, you can also use the component monitor.

Result

You have used repository managers to integrate various repositories in the portal. In doing this, you have specified repository services and checked their configuration and the configuration of the global services.
