Configuring User InterfacesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Purpose

The Configuring User Interfaces process contains configuration tasks that the implementation team performs.

The Knowledge Management capabilities of the portal provide a flexible user interface for browsing in repositories, which can be configured to suit user requirements and the company's corporate design.

Note

The standard system contains some design templates. These demonstrate the configuration options.

Using the Process

This IT process is part of the following IT scenario:

Prerequisites
  • One or more repositories are available.
  • You have created properties and resource types.
  • You have indexed the documents that are stored in the repositories.
  • Hierarchies have been set up in taxonomies (optional).
  • You have considered what the layouts for the different repositories, folders, and taxonomies should look like.
Process Flow

The following IT process is incorporated in the Enterprise Portal (EP) usage type:

  1. Configure or create UI elements.

You configure the various modular elements of the user interface.

    • You use resource renderers and collection renderers to determine the appearance of individual items and their arrangement in folders.
    • You define which properties are displayed and put together command groups.
    • You can use image maps to implement a graphical navigation.

In addition to the explorer elements, which are used for browsing in hierarchies, you can also modify the Details dialog box and the default search dialog box to suit your requirements.

    Note

Always create a copy of configuration objects that were delivered by SAP. Modify these copies only and not the delivered design templates and user interface elements.

  1. Combine UI elements to layout sets.

In layout sets, you group together different modular elements. You can use the layout set for iViews and folders.

  2. Combine layout sets to profiles and assign to iViews and/or repositories.

Layout profiles reference a layout set and in addition, contain a miniature view of the layout.

Assign the layout sets or layout profiles to the corresponding iViews, folders, or repositories.

Result

You have configured layouts that are used for browsing in repositories and taxonomies or for searching and displaying the Knowledge Management user interface.
