Master Data for Planning with InC in PP/DS

Purpose

You define the master data for planning with product interchangeability (InC) according to the process described below.

Note Note

In this process, you create product interchangeability master data manually in SAP APO. You can also transfer discontinuation data from SAP R/3 to SAP APO .

End of the note.

Prerequisites

To be able to create a supersession chain:

  • You need to have created a supply chain model, locations, and the location products from the supersession chain

  • You need to have assigned the locations and the location products to the supply chain model

Process Flow

  1. You create an interchangeability group with the group type supersession chain and define the supersession chain. Consistency checks support you when you create a supersession chain that is permitted for PP/DS. The checks make sure that:

    • You assign a product to only one supersession chain

    • You do not assign any configurable products to a supersession chain

Therefore, you should not deactivate the consistency checks that are relevant for PP/DS in the Implementation Guide (IMG) for product interchangeability.

  2. You assign the interchangeability group to the location. For a stock transfer scenario, you have to assign the supersession chain to all locations involved.

In the location assignment, the system automatically creates a planning package of the type 001 for the products in the supersession chain and enters the planning package in the location product master for the products. This planning package makes it necessary that an MRP run or the product heuristic always plans all products in the supersession chain. In the standard system, the system automatically enters the standard heuristic SAP_PP_I001 as the package heuristic in the location product master. In the MRP planning run, the heuristic SAP_PP_I001 makes sure that the system calls up the relevant product heuristic for the products in the supersession chain one after the other, and in the sequence defined by the supersession chain.

  3. You assign the interchangeability group to the supply chain model.

  4. In the location product master for the products involved in the supersession chain, you check the data that is relevant for planning interchangeable products.

    1. a. You check the planning procedure on the PP/DS tab page.

    Note Note

Note that the action Cover Dep./Stk Tr. Requirement Immediately does not take product interchangeability into consideration. For example, the standard planning procedure 3 ( Cover dependent requirements immediately ) contains this action. You use this planning procedure for products that you plan in the Capable-to-Promise scenario .

    1. b. You check the product heuristic entered on the PP/DS tab page. You have to enter a suitable procurement planning heuristic for planning with product interchangeability, such as the heuristic for planning standard lot s SAP_PP_002 (algorithm /SAPAPO/HEU_PLAN_STANDARDLOTS). Procurement planning heuristics that plan according to a reorder point method, do not take product interchangeability into consideration, for example.

    2. c. On the PP/DS tab page, you check the data for the planning package that the system has automatically created for the supersession chain (see also step 2).

      • In the standard system, a planning package of the type 001 has to be entered in the planning package field. This field cannot be changed.

      • The heuristic SAP_PP_I001 has to be entered as the package heuristic in package maintenance.

    3. d. On the Lot Size tab page, check the lot-sizing procedure and the parameters for determining the procurement quantities.

      • If you want the system to consider product interchangeability when planning with a standard lot-sizing heuristic, you may not use any reorder point method. However, if you do want to use a reorder point method, the standard lot-sizing procedure does not take product interchangeability into consideration. In this case, you must reduce the reorder point quantity in time for a discontinued product. This is relevant if you plan using a heuristic based on the algorithm /SAPAPO/HEU_PLAN_STANDARDLOTS and you have defined in the heuristic settings that the heuristic should use the lot-sizing procedure from the location product master.

      • To avoid building up an unnecessarily large safety stock for a product being discontinued, you should reduce the safety stock in good time.

    4. e. If you set the Last Lot Exact indicator on the Lot Size tab page, the system automatically creates the last receipt within the validity period of a product using a reduced receipt quantity in procurement planning. The receipt quantity is just large enough that the available quantity is 0 at the end of the validity period. The prerequisite for the reduction is that the validity period of the product does not reach beyond the end of the PP/DS horizon. (There could be more requirements, which the system can cover with regular receipts, lying between the end of the PP/DS horizon and the end of the validity period that reaches beyond the end of the PP/DS horizon. Therefore, the system does not reduce the last receipt in the PP/DS horizon in this case.)

    End of the note.
  5. In the location product master, you check the data for the ATP check in the in-house production order and create suitable data, if required.

  6. In the production planning run, you execute a low-level code determination for the products in a supersession chain using the heuristic SAP_PP_020. Since the products in a supersession chain belong to one planning package, they acquire the same low-level code.
