Procedure documentation Creating SAP Source Systems  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Prerequisites

You have defined the necessary configuration in BI and in the source system.

More Information:

Configurations in BI

Configurations in the SAP Source System

Procedure

       1.      To create an SAP system with an installed API as the source system, choose Create in the context menu for the SAP folder in the source system tree in Data Warehousing Workbench, .

To create another BI system as the source system, choose Create in the context menu for the BI folder in the source system tree in Data Warehousing Workbench, .

       2.      Select the destination in the SAP source system if there is already one there.

Note that the destination name has to correspond to the logical name of the source system that you created in source system Customizing in the Name Logical System step.

       3.      If no destination exists, enter the server name information from the source system.

Example

Application server:  pswdf090

System ID:            IDF

System Number:    90

       4.      Enter a password for the background user in the source system and confirm this in the next input row. If the user already exists in the source system, enter the valid password.

       5.      Enter a password for the background user in BI. This must be the one you set in the Implementation Guide under SAP NetWeaver  Business Intelligence  Automated Processes Create User for Background Processes. Confirm your entry.

       6.      Choose Apply. The remote login for the source system appears.

       7.      Select the client you want to use and log on as a system administrator. First make sure that you have the authority to create users and RFC destinations.

The RFC destinations for BI and the background users are thus created automatically in the source system. If the RFC destination already exists in the source system, check its accuracy. You can test the RFC destination using the function Test Connection and Test Authorizations. For more information on RFC destinations, see Maintaining Remote Destinations.

The user profile assignment ((S_BI-WX_RFC)) is also made automatically. If the user already exists in the source system, check the accuracy of the profile

If BI does not already have an RFC destination for the source system, an RFC destination will be created automatically with the information read in the source system.

Result

The source system is created and activated.

The ALE settings, which are needed for the communication between a BI System and an SAP System, are created in the background with the use of the created destinations. These settings are made in BI as well as in the source system. The BI settings for the new connection are created in BI.

If the new SAP source system has been created, metadata is requested automatically from the source system. The metadata for DataSources is also replicated to BI in the D version.
