Make the settings described below for each SAP source system you want to connect to the BI system in order to transfer data.
In the Implementation Guide (IMG) under SAP NetWeaver → Business Intelligence → Connections to Other Systems make the following settings:
● General connection settings
○ Define logical system
○ Assign logical system to client
● Perform automatic workflow customizing
The background user in BI is used for communication with the BI source systems, for the extraction of data, and for background processes in BI.
in the Implementation Guide (IMG) under SAP NetWeaver → Business Intelligence → Automated Processes, create a user for background processes in BI and assign this user profile S_BI-WHM_RFC. SAP recommends that you call the background user in BI BWREMOTE.
Make sure that the background use in BI is used as the default setting when creating the source system. This is the case if the background user is entered in Data Warehousing Workbench under Settings → Global Setting, in the BW User for ALE field.
The background user in the source system is used for communication with BI and for the extraction of data.
In the Implementation Guide (IMG) under SAP NetWeaver → Business Intelligence →Connections to Other Systems → Connection Between SAP Systems and BI Systems, enter a proposal for the name of the background user in the source system.
In the default setting, the name that you enter here will be displayed as Background User in the Source System in the dialog box for creating the source system and will be used to generate the user when creating the source system if a user has not already been generated for the source system. SAP recommends that you call the background user in the source system ALEREMOTE. If the source system already has a user with profile S_BI-WX_RFC, enter this here.
If the source system you are using is also a BI system, SAP recommends that you create the background user for BI and the background user for the (BI) source system completely separately. For the myself extraction, you can use a user in both roles. In this case, SAP recommends also assigning profile S_BI-WX_RFC to the background user in BI (BWREMOTE).
As a rule, system changes are not permitted in productive systems. Connecting a system as a source system to a BI system or connecting a BI system to a new source system will, however, mean changes as far as the system change option is concerned. Make the following settings in the BI system to ensure that the following changes are valid in the relevant clients of the systems when connecting the source system.
● Cross-client Customizing and repository changes
In the Implementation Guide under SAP NetWeaver → Business Intelligence → Links to Other Systems → General Connection Settings → Assign Logical System to Client, select the relevant clients under Goto → Details.
Choose Changes to Repository and Cross-Client Customizing Permitted in the Changes to Cross-Client Objects field.
● Changes to the software components Local Developments (LOCAL) and SAP NetWeaver BI (SAP_BW)
In the Transport Organizer Tools (Transaction SE03) choose Administration → Set System Change Option and then Execute. In the next screen mark the software components LOCAL and SAP_BW as changeable.
● Changes to the customer name range.
In the Transport Organizer Tools (Transaction SE03) choose Administration → Set System Change Option and then Execute. In the next screen mark the customer namespace as changeable.
● Changes in the BI namespaces with prefix /BI0/ (SAP namespace) and /BIC/ (customer namespace)
In the Transport Organizer Tools (Transaction SE03) choose Administration → Set System Change Option and then Execute. On the next screen, mark the BI namespaces with the prefixes /BI0/ and /BIC/ as changeable.
