Use

In addition to using the context menu to navigate query results, in analysis mode, you can navigate within the analysis grid and the navigation pane using the drag and drop functions.

Features

Many of the functions available on the context menu are available with the drag and drop function. See Context Menu Functions for functional descriptions.

Note

If you do not want to use the navigation function in the query, you can deselect the Activate Navigation indicator in the properties for the analysis grid or navigation pane. In this way, you can deactivate the drag and drop function in analysis mode for these design items. This also deactivates the context menu.

You can completely disable drag and drop in your workbook, in both the analysis grid and navigation pane, by deselecting Allow Drag and Drop in Workbook Settings.

You drag from a source cell to a target cell, in either the analysis grid or the navigation pane. The functions available depend on the type of source cell and target cell.  The table below shows the drag and drop functions in both the analysis grid and the navigation pane:

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Notes and Tips:

Drag a dimension from the navigation pane to the left-most data cell in the analysis grid to add the dimension to the drilldown (to add it to the rows).  You can get the same result by dropping a dimension onto a characteristic value.

In the case of dimensions, source and target cells can be either on the analysis grid or navigation pane.

Drag dimensions within the navigation pane (in a non-filter area) to swap dimensions.

You can select multiple cells as source cells (in a contiguous range).

Using drag and drop allows you to use filter functions:

...

You can easily filter the results by selecting a characteristic value or a structure member value (key figure) in the analysis grid and moving the value to the filter area using the drag and drop function.

The filter area of the navigation pane refers to the right side of the navigation pane.

You can exclude a characteristic value or a structure member value (key figure) from the filter by selecting the value in the analysis grid and using drag and drop to move it to the free area outside the analysis grid.

If you get lost, go to Query Properties and reconfigure the rows and columns for display on the Navigational State tab page.

Everything you can do by drag and drop, you can also accomplish using the context menu.

Cursor States

The cursor changes when you move a source cell over target sources. It indicates whether you can use the drop function for the target source by showing you what happens when you execute this function for the target source.

Drop not allowed (“blocked traffic” sign)

Drill across (arrow pointing to the right)

      Drill down (arrow pointing down)

      Exchange dimensions (exchange icon)

      Add to filter (add icon)

      Remove from filter (remove icon)

      Reorder list (reorder icon)

Activities

...

       1.      In analysis mode, locate the source cell you want in either the analysis grid or the navigation pane.

       2.      Move the mouse to the border of the cell, where the cursor becomes a crosshair.

       3.      Use the mouse button to select the cell and begin dragging.

Note the state of the cursor as you do this. It shows you where you can drop the cell.

       4.      When you are over your target cell, release the mouse button to drop the cell.

Your query results refresh with the result of the navigation function.

Note

If you have just opened your query or workbook, you may need to refresh the data to establish a connection with the server to perform drag and drop activities (see Refresh / Pause Automatic Refresh ).

After you have dropped a cell into its new location, the results for the query refresh automatically (unless your refresh status is set to Pause Automatic Refresh).
