Planning Segment Line or group of alternative lines of a line network for which the orders are scheduled in Model Mix Planning. The system calculates when the processing of an order is to begin on this line (start time) and when it ends (end time). The start and end times of the lines before or after are then calculated using forward or backward scheduling. See also: Midpoint Scheduling .
The planning segment is used in the medium-term horizon to calculate the dates for the period packages.

In the short-term horizon , the order sequence is calculated with exact start and end times for the planning segment.
When using a procedure to plan single lines, the system only takes the restrictions you defined for the planning segment into account. When using the LP Procedure , however, the restrictions of all lines are taken into account. See also: Including Restrictions in Planning
You define the planning segment in
iPPE Line Design
by setting the
Planning segment
indicator for a line or for a group of alternative lines.
If your line structure only consists of one line, you set the indicator for this line.
If your line structure consists of a line network with several lines, you set the indicator for the line for which you want to calculate the exact order sequence. This can be any line of your choice. See also: Single-Line Planning
If your line structure consists of a line network with one or several groups of alternative lines, you set the indicator for the first part of the line network as in this case you execute multiline planning and therefore have to use the LP Procedure . For the LP Procedure, you always have to define the first line or group of alternative lines in the line network as the planning segment – otherwise planning cannot be carried out correctly.
