Definition

Part of a packaging specification (PS) that describes a packaging level.

A PS level contains, for example, data for the quantities that SAP Supply Network Collaboration (SAP SNC) is to pack in this packaging level in automatic packing.

Use

You use various PS levels to describe the various packaging levels. You number the PS levels in the sequence of the packaging levels. You use the PS level with the lowest number to describe the smallest packaging unit, in other words, the innermost packaging level. You only require higher PS levels in multilevel packing if you want to pack the smallest packaging units into larger packaging units.

Example

If you want to pack boxes with indicators into mesh box pallets, you require two PS levels. The first PS level describes the packing of indicators into the boxes; the second PS level describes the packing of the filled boxes into mesh box pallets.

Structure

Data for the Quantities to Be Packed in a PS Level

A PS level contains fields for the target quantity, the rounding quantity, and the minimum quantity. You use this data to control which quantities of products or packaging units SAP SNC packs in a packaging level during automatic packing. The target quantity, rounding quantity, and minimum quantity are numbers without dimensions. On the lowest PS level, they represent a number of PS contents (see Product Quantities in the Smallest Packaging Unit). On a higher PS level, they represent a number of packaging units from the lower packaging level. The following table contains a description of the individual quantity fields.

Field

Description

Target Quantity

Maximum number that SAP SNC can pack in a PS level

Example: The PS content consists of a right and a left indicator. On the first packaging level, you want to pack one right and one left indicator in a box. Therefore, you enter target quantity 2 for PS level 1. If you want to pack 1000 of these boxes on the second packaging level in a mesh box pallet, you enter the target quantity 1000 for PS level 2.

Minimum Quantity

Minimum number that SAP SNC must pack in a PS level

If SAP SNC does not reach the minimum quantity for a PS level during automatic packing, SAP SNC terminates packing for this level.

Example: If you have to put at least 200 boxes in the mesh box pallet from the example given above, you specify the minimum quantity 200 for the PS level 2.

Rounding Quantity

Number whose multiple SAP SNC must pack

A remaining quantity, which is smaller than the rounding quantity, remains unpacked in automatic packing.

Example: You always want to put complete layers in the mesh box pallet from the example given above. A layer holds 100 boxes. In this case, you specify the rounding quantity 100 for PS level 2. For 370 boxes, SAP SNC only packs 300 pieces. The remaining 70 are not packed.

Total Quantity of a Product in a Handling Unit Packed on Multiple Levels

The total product quantity that can be packed in a handling unit packed on multiple levels is the product quantity that you entered in the PS content, multiplied by the target quantities that you have entered for the PS levels.

Note

If the PS content consists of a right and a left indicator, and target quantities of two and 1000 are entered for PS levels 1 and 2 respectively, a fully packed HU contains 2000 right and 2000 left indicators (2000 = 1󫎽000).

Data for the Properties of a Packaging Unit

SAP SNC calculates following data of a packaging unit automatically using the data from the product masters of the packaging materials, auxiliary packaging materials, and the packed products:

      Volume

      Weight

You cannot change the data at the PS level.

The following dimensions of a handling unit also come from the product master of the main packaging material:

      Height

      Length

      Width

You can change the data.

HU Creation Indicator

You set the HU Creation indicator for a PS level if you want the system to automatically generate an HU for the PS level during automatic packing. The system generates the HU that is marked as the main packaging material for the PS level element. If no PS level element is marked as the main packaging material, SAP SNC does not generate an HU for the PS level.

Element Group

The PS level displays the number of the element group. The element group is automatically generated by the system and contains the PS level element of the PS level. Element groups simplify assigning PS level elements to a PS level. For more information, see Generation and Use of Element Groups.
