Procedure documentationSimulating the Evaluation of ILM Rules

You can simulate the result of rule finding and rule evaluation for all ILM policies defined for an ILM object. ILM rule simulation provides an overview of the audit areas to which the ILM object belongs and of legal holds that may exist.

The ILM rule simulation log is structured as follows:

Information
  • Call parameters (Values of the condition fields with which rule simulation was called)

  • Audit areas to which the ILM object is assigned, with information about all related policies

Result
  • Valid rules: All rules that match the conditions including the determined date specifications

  • Operative rules: Rules that have a direct effect on the determination of the operative period, and possibly the store

  • Legal holds (locked objects)

  • Information about whether the data object with the determined value can be destroyed

  • Type of data object (degree of capability that the rule can supply a start date)

Prerequisites

You must familiarize yourself with the logic that the system uses for rule determination and evaluation in order to interpret rule simulation.

Procedure

  1. In the ILM Retention Management cockpit or the ILM Retention Warehouse cockpit for administrators, choose Start of the navigation path ILM Rules Next navigation step Simulate Rule Determination End of the navigation path.

Alternatively, you can use transaction code ILMSIM to call the function in the application system.

  2. Enter the following data on the initial screen:

    • Policy Category – To restrict the simulation to the retention rules (RTP) or residence rules (RST).

    • ILM Object to which the simulation refers

  3. Enter the field values with which you want to execute rule simulation.

    • System ID and Client of the application system.

    • Values of additional Source Fields for determining conditions or start times (as defined in the Business Suite-specific settings for the ILM object).

      Note Note

You can enter either an entire set of field values or you can use multiple selection to enter multiple sets of field values. Note the sequence of the individual values in the multiple selection list of each field. All values with the same item in the multiple selection list of the fields make up a field value record.

      End of the note.
    • Optional: If you also want the simulation to determine the destructibility of the object instance, select the relevant checkbox.

  4. Choose Start of the navigation path Program Next navigation step Execute End of the navigation path.

  5. Use the log to check the information for the determined audit areas, policies, and rules as well as the results of rule determination and rule evaluation.
