Background documentationPolicy Categories for ILM Objects

In SAP NetWeaver ILM, the policy category determines the structure of the ILM rules of an ILM object according to its application purpose. The settings for each ILM object specify which policy categories are permitted for the definition of ILM rules.

SAP supplies the following policy categories:

Policy Category

Technical Key

Description

Rule Evaluation

Retention Rules

RTP

Each rule in this category contains time targets that the system uses to determine a specific minimum or maximum retention period (start and end dates) for an ILM object. An archived data object cannot be deleted or destroyed during the retention period.

Retention rules can be inherited from all audit areas. All audit areas are evaluated.

Residence Rules

RST

Each rule in this category contains time targets that the system uses to determine a specific residence period (start and end dates) for an ILM object. Residence rules can be bequeathed only within one audit area.

You use residence rules to define how long a data object resides in the database of the application system before it can be archived (audit area ARCHIVING – data archiving).

Note Note

The technical prerequisites for defining residence rules are already available. However, it is not planned to implement this as a standard in SAP applications until future shipments.

End of the note.
