Procedure documentationExtracting Data from an Audit Package to the BW System

To be able to retrieve the legacy data managed in ILM Retention Warehouse with the help of BW queries, you extract the required data to SAP NetWeaver based on audit packages. The extraction function creates the necessary BW infrastructure objects for the extracted data in the BW system. You can restart an extraction job, check the data and infrastructure objects created in the BW system, and delete the extracted data including the infrastructure objects in the BW system.

Prerequisites

  • You have called the function for processing audit packages and selected a worklist that contains the audit package to be extracted to the BW system. For more information, see: Processing Audit Packages.

  • If the BW system is on SAP HANA and you want to generate optimized content, ensure that you have assigned the InfoObjects for reuse. For more information about how to reuse InfoObjects, see Making Configuration Settings for BW Queries in Retention Warehouse.

Procedure

Define the Extraction of the Audit Package to the BW System and Execute the Job
  1. Select the audit package.

  2. Choose Start of the navigation path BW Reporting Next navigation step Extract Audit Package to BW End of the navigation path

  3. Execute the predefined steps:

    Note Note

    • Use the Generate Only checkbox to define that the system creates the BW infrastructure without transferring data.

    • Use the Generate Optimized Content checkbox to define that the system generates the DSO objects with the optimized content. This parameter is available only if the BW system is on SAP HANA and you have opted to extract data to a DSO object. This parameter is not available for InfoCubes.

    End of the note.
  4. The ILM Retention Warehouse processes the scheduled extraction job in the following steps:

    1. Analysis of Tables

The system analyzes each table contained in the audit package and determines the necessary infrastructure objects.

    2. Reference InfoProvider

If the BW system is on SAP HANA and the Generate Optimized Content checkbox is selected, you will be prompted to provide the InfoProvider. The queries from this InfoProvider will be copied to the similarly structured InfoProvider that is generated.

    3. Creating infrastructure objects

The system creates the infrastructure objects in the BW system in the following sequence:

      1. InfoArea (with the audit package name)

      2. InfoObjectCatalog (characteristics and key figures for each InfoArea)

      3. InfoObject (activated and added to the relevant InfoObjectCatalog)

      4. InfoProvider for transaction data

      5. InfoSet

      6. Queries (if the Generate Optimized Content checkbox is selected)

      Note Note

You can use a Business Add-In (BAdI) to influence the mapping of archived data and metadata to InfoObjects and InfoProviders.

      End of the note.
    4. Extracting archive files

Retention Warehouse extracts the archived data directly to the BW system. This is possible because RW uses transactional InfoProviders (InfoCubes or DataStore Objects).

Repeating Extraction Job

If you have executed the job only to generate and check the BW infrastructure objects, you can repeat it to extract the relevant data. To do so, choose Start of the navigation path BW Reporting Next navigation step Repeat Extraction Job End of the navigation path.

Displaying Audit Package Data and Extraction Results

If you want to check the audit package data as well as the infrastructure objects created in the BW system and the extraction logs, choose Start of the navigation path BW Reporting Next navigation step Display Details End of the navigation path.

Displaying Extracted Audit Package Tables

If you want to display the tables and fields of an audit package in the table browser, choose Start of the navigation path BW Reporting Next navigation step Display BW Table End of the navigation path.

Deleting Extracted Audit Packages in the BW System

If you want to delete the BW infrastructure objects created for the audit package or the data extracted to BW in the audit package, choose Start of the navigation path BW Reporting Next navigation step Delete Audit Package in BW End of the navigation path.

To be able to delete an audit package, you first need to delete the audit package data extracted to SAP NetWeaver BW.
