Releasing Project ElementsOnce you have entered the basic data for a project element and want to start processing it, you have to release the project element for processing.
Project elements below the project definition can be released automatically, for example, when a higher-level project element has been released. You can manually release a project element on the Basic Data
tab page of the project element. In the Status
area, choose Release
from the Change Status
dropdown box, and save the project.
You entered a project type, phase type, checklist type, or task type for projects, phases, checklists, and tasks.
If you want to release a phase, the project it belongs to and the predecessor phase must both have already been released.
If sequential phase processing is active in your project, you can only release a phase if its predecessor phase has already been released. For more information about sequential and non-sequential phase processing, see Status of Phases.
The manual or automatic release of individual project elements has the following consequences:
Project definition:
The project is released for processing (see Editing Project Structures).
You cannot change the project type.
The first phase of the project is released.
If sequential phase processing is active in your project, the first phase is automatically released when the project is released (see Status of Phases).
Phase:
The phase is released for processing.
You cannot change the phase type.
Any existing checklist references are resolved.
The subtasks and lower-level checklists are released for processing.
If sequential phase processing is active in your project, you can no longer move the phase or insert other phases before it (see Status of Phases).
Checklist:
The checklist is released for processing.
You cannot change the checklist type.
The lower-level checklist items are released for processing.
Checklist item:
The checklist item is released for processing.
The subtasks are released for processing.
Task:
The task is released for processing (see Confirming Tasks).
You cannot change the task type.
The subtasks are released for processing.
Note
If sequential phase processing is active for a project, all project elements below the project definition can be released automatically as follows: When the project definition is released, the first phase and all tasks and checklists assigned directly to the project definition are released automatically. All subsequent phases are released automatically when the predecessor phase has been completed. All project elements below the phases are released automatically once the higher-level project element is released.
To release a project element manually, open the Basic Data
tab page of the project element. In the Status
area, choose Release
from the Change Status
dropdown box and save the project.
