Function documentationResource Search

You use the resource search function to find suitable and available project resources.

Integration

As search criteria, the search function uses all data required for the search from the role. The search criteria can be changed in the search function without changing the attributes of the role itself.

You have installed the WFD server as an add-on or connected it as an external system. You use the WFD server to check the availability. You can also check the availability more simply without using the WFD server.

Prerequisites

  • In Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Start of the navigation path Project Management Next navigation step Resource Management Next navigation step Basic Settings for Roles Next navigation step BAdI: Configure Resource Search End of the navigation path, you have made the following settings as required:

    • You have defined a customer-specific search logic and search criteria (with the corresponding user interface).

    • You have modified the structure and appearance of the search result list.

    • You have specified the weighting of the partial results.

    • You have specified whether a dialog box for entering search criteria is displayed when you start the resource search, or the search is carried out immediately using default criteria.

For more information, see SAP Note 1009131Information published on SAP site

  • You have created roles in the Details subview of the Resources view or in the Staffing Overview: Dates. For more information, see Roles and Creating a Role.

Features

You can run a resource search in the Resources view of projects. Choose one of the subviews of the Resources view, then select a role and choose Resource Search.

Depending on your Customizing settings (see Prerequisites), the resource search is carried out immediately using default criteria, or you can enter the following search criteria in a dialog box:

Search Criteria

See

General role type that is to be staffed

Specified time period

Customer/ordering party

Area/location

Maximum number of hits in the search result

General Selection Criteria

Organizational unit

Selection According to Organizational Structure

Qualifications

Selection According to Qualifications

Availability

Selection According to Availability

Note, however, that candidates are always included in the search results, regardless of the selection criteria you enter or the resource's suitability percentage.

Once search criteria have been entered either manually or by default on one of the tab pages of the dialog box, a green checkmark is displayed next to the tab title. You start the resource search by choosing Find Resource in the dialog box.
