Background documentationHierarchy Processing

Hierarchy processing affects how project hierarchies are handled during the transfer of financial planning data from Project System to Portfolio and Project Management. In the Financial Planning screen, you can see aggregated financial planning data for a portfolio item. Hierarchy processing, which is carried out in the background by the system, affects this data.

Note Note

The structure of the project must be transferred separately from Project System to Portfolio and Project Management. The structure is not maintained during planning data transfer. Only planning data is transferred during the transfer of financial planning data.

End of the note.

You can transfer financial data attached to any WBS objects in Project System to Portfolio and Project Management. If hierarchy processing is activated, financial data attached to any child elements of the linked WBS objects is also transferred. In Project System, orders (for example, internal orders, maintenance or service orders, or production orders) can be assigned to WBS elements.

Elements Considered During Hierarchy Processing

The project hierarchy is separated into the project definition, WBS elements, and orders. They are handled differently during hierarchy processing, depending on whether they are activated. The table below shows which elements are taken into consideration during hierarchy processing:

Not activated in Customizing

Activated in Customizing activity Financial Object Link Types for Hierarchical Processing

Project Definition

Subordinate WBS elements, networks, and network activities

Subordinate WBS elements, networks, and network activities plus additional orders and order operations

Other Objects

No subordinate objects

All subordinate objects, that is WBS elements, networks, network activities, orders, order operations

Prerequisites

  • In Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management, you have activated hierarchy processing for the WBS elements in Project System. You then activated elements structured under the WBS element, for example, networks, activities, orders, and subnetworks.

  • You have maintained settings in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Start of the navigation path Portfolio Management Next navigation step Base System Interfaces Next navigation step SAP Financial and Controlling Integration Next navigation step SAP Portfolio and Project Management System Customizing for SAP FI-CO Next navigation step Financial Object Link Types for Hierarchical Processing End of the navigation path.
