Classification for Items and Initiatives
You can use this function to view and edit classification hierarchies to which the item or initiative is assigned. You can assign an item or an initiative to buckets within classification hierarchies in either the Item
or Initiative
details
screen, in the Classification
subview.
The classification dashboard displays the following information:

Classification Hierarchy |
An alternative bucket structure to the standard portfolio hierarchy to which you can assign this item or initiative. |

Indicates the buckets that you have assigned the item or initiative to within the classification hierarchy. The classification hierarchies that this item or initiative is assigned to are displayed in the top lines of the dashboard, above the unassigned classification hierarchies. |

In Customizing activities for SAP Portfolio and Project Management
, you chose whether to maintain the percentage values for financial factors and capacity factors independently from each other, or as a common factor.
If you chose to maintain financial factors and capacity factors separately, the two columns replace the single factor column in the dashboard.
To assign the item or initiative to a classification hierarchy or bucket, select the classification hierarchy, and choose the Edit Classification
pushbutton. From the bucket structure, you can select the bucket that you want to assign the item or initiative to,
and also assign the factor value. The status of the bucket is not taken into account.
When you choose OK
, you can see the changes in the classification dashboard.
If the classification hierarchy has been marked as Mandatory
in the Classification Hierarchy Details
screen, you must assign this item or initiative to the indicated classification hierarchy. For mandatory classification hierarchies,
you must assign any items or initiatives that are assigned to the classification hierarchy's parent portfolio to the classification hierarchy also.
Depending on whether you chose to maintain the percentage values for financial factors and capacity factors independently, or as a common factor, you distribute values between buckets within a classification hierarchy. The overall sum within each classification hierarchy should be 100% for each factor type. You can edit the factor percentages at any time after the item has been created within the initiative.
Note
The percentage values maintained in an item or initiative are rolled up to the buckets within classifications. Distribution percentage values apply to all groups that are maintained in the planning, but you can overwrite them for a certain group or view through the BAdI: Modification
of Classification Rollup Factor
in Customizing for . For more information,
see Rollup.
The following actions can affect factor values:
Change of Item Type or Initiative Type
If you change the item type or the initiative type, the system updates the factor values using the following rules:

For more information about changing the item or initiative type, see Process Flow Change.
New Item Created Within Initiative
When you create an item within an initiative, the item is assigned to the same classification hierarchies as the initiative, with the same factor values. This does not apply when the item is created separately to the initiative.
The percentage values for the factors in the item of initiative are copied from the initiative. Dependent on whether the common factor, or the separate financial factor and capacity factor is used, the following table shows how the percentage values are copied from the initiative to the item:

You assign an item called Iceshine that has total planned costs of USD 20,000 to a classification hierarchy called Target Market. You maintain the percentage values for Iceshine between two buckets in Target Market, assigning 30% to the bucket Brand A, and 70% to the bucket Brand B. Financial Planning for the Target Market classification hierarchy therefore results in USD 6,000 for Brand A, and USD 14,000 for Brand B.
