Procedure documentationCreating a Project Definition

The first step in creating a project is creating a project definition (see Project Definition). This is where you define the data for your project. If you use a template, you create a complete project.

Prerequisites

  • You have authorization for the authorization object CPRO_PTYPE for the project types you want to use.

  • If you want to use a project template, you have defined and released the template (see Templates).

  • If you want to copy an operational project, you have made the corresponding Customizing settings (see Copying of Projects).

Procedure

  1. In the project dashboard, choose Create.

  2. Enter a project number for the new project.

You can enter any string of characters. The system checks whether the number has been assigned yet.

    Note Note

If you have implemented method GENERATE_PROJECT_ID of BAdI: Check/Change Fields in Project Management, you cannot enter a project number for the new project. In this case the system generates a project number in accordance with the user-defined rules of method GENERATE_PROJECT_ID during saving. For more information, see Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Start of the navigation path Project Management Next navigation step Global Enhancements to Project Elements Next navigation step Business Add-Ins (BAdIs) Next navigation step BAdI: Check/Change Fields in Project Management End of the navigation path.

    End of the note.
  3. If you want to create your project based on a project template, an operational project or a simulation, choose the corresponding template type and enter the following data:

    • For a project template, choose a project type and select a template.

      Note Note

Depending on your Customizing settings, you can use all templates with the selected project type, or only those determined using an additional, customer-specific filter. If the Show All Templates checkbox is active, you can decide whether you want to choose your template from the complete list or the filter results list.

    • For an operational project, enter the number of the source project.

    • For a simulation, select the version to which it is assigned and specify the simulation project number in the Template field.

    For a simulation:

    • Select a version as the version for copy. The input help displays the simulation versions that are available.

    • Select a project number as the template. The input help displays the existing simulation project numbers.

  4. Enter the original language.

  5. Choose Create.

The editing screen of the new project appears. You can continue to structure your project here and enter all the necessary data. For more information, see Creation of a Project.

  6. Save your entries.

    Caution Caution

Note that the system creates your project only after you have saved the data.

    End of the caution.
