Process documentationFinancial Planning

You use this process to plan financial data along a timeline. You can define financial categories and category groups.

By doing this, you can compare forecasted portfolio information with gathered bottom-up information, that is, planned data versus actual data.

Prerequisites

  • You have defined the financial planning settings for a bucket on the Bucket Details screen in the Financial and Capacity Information subview of the Overview view.

  • You have defined the financial planning settings for an item on the Item Details screen in the Financial Information subview of the Overview view.

  • If you want to use financial planning for an initiative, you have also defined financial planning settings for the initiative on the Initiative Details screen in the Financial Information subview of the Overview view.

Process

  1. The portfolio manager enters the financial data for a bucket on the bucket details screen, for example the actual costs and the budget (see Bucket Details).

  2. The item manager enters the financial data for an item in the item details screen, for example the actual costs for the item, the item budget, and the development costs (see Item Details).

  3. In the case of an initiative, the product manager enters financial data for an initiative on the initiative details screen, for example the actual costs (see Initiative Details).

  4. The system displays the financial data for an item in financial views and financial categories.

  5. In each view, the item manager can enter data to change the financial planning.

Result

The item (and initiative, if relevant) have forecasted and planned financial information per category and subcategory.
