Procedure documentation Providing Portal Drive to Client PCs Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

The portal drive allows users to work with documents on the Portal the same way they would work on any Windows drive. Communication with the server is done using the WebDAV protocol.

Authentication

The Portal Drive can use standard username/password for authentication. It also supports Single Sign On with servers using either NTLM authentication or Client Side Certificates. When first connecting to a server, the Portal Drive automatically attempts to authenticate using Single Sign On. If it is not successful, then it will ask the user for a username/password.

Prerequisites

The WebDAV server is enabled (System Administration ® System Configuration ® Knowledge Management ® Content Management ® Protocols ® WebDAV).

The option Enable WebDAV Server determines whether access through WebDAV clients like MS Web Folders or Portal Drive will work or not. If this parameter is disabled, such WebDAV clients will not be able to connect to your KM. Changes take effect immediately. Disabling the WebDAV Server does not impact other standard KM functionality. For more information, see WebDAV Protocol.

Procedure

1. Downloading the Installer

...

You can download the installer from SAP Service Marketplace under service.sap.com ® Software Download ® Download ® Support Packages and Patches ® Entry by Application Group ® SAP NetWeaver ® SAP NETWEAVER ® SAP NETWEAVER 04 ® Entry by Component ® Frontend ® Portal Drive 4.4 ® Windows Server on IA32 32bit.

The installer is packed in a ZIP archive.

2. Making the Installer available to clients

       1.      Extract the executable file from the ZIP archive.

       2.      We recommend that you make the executable file (xPortalDrive.exe) available to the clients in your company, e. g. on a file server, a web server, or in your internal portal.

       3.      You can then install the portal drive client on the local PCs.

See: Installating the Portal Drive Client

3. Optional: Adding the “Map Portal Drive” Command to the KM User Interface

This command can be displayed in the context menu of folders. It allows users to temporarily map a folder to a drive letter in Windows Explorer.

By default, the Map Portal Drive command is not visible in any iView. In order for users to be able to use this command, you must add the mount_PortalDrive user interface command to the corresponding command group in the KM UI configuration (see Commands and Command Groups).

Running Portal Drive with a Virus Scanner

If you are running a real-time virus scanner, it is recommended that you configure the virus scanner to exclude scanning of the portal drive cache. Doing this provides a noticeable performance improvement when working with the cache, such as during opening and editing of files.
