Mail Statuses
Each mail in the Bounced Mail Framework (BMF) is assigned to a status.
The status is determined by the following factors:
● Has the mail time limit for a response been exceeded?
· Is there a response?
· Is the client application processing successful?
· Is the BMF mapping using patterns successful?
· Has a rejection reason been identified?
To understand how mail statuses are resolved, you must be familiar with the basic BMF principles.

Key to Factors:
TLE – Time Limit Exceeded
RES – Response from External System
SCAP – Successful Client Application Processing
SM – Successful Mapping
RRI – Rejection Reason Identified

Lost in Space (LIS) |
Each sent mail has a value, called TTR (Time-to-Respond). When the specified period of time passes and there is still no response, the mail status changes to LIS. All responses received after the time limit is exceeded are ignored. |

Valid |
There is a response, the mapping and the client application processing were successful and no rejection reason has been found, so the mail has the status Valid. These mails are automatically transferred to Statistics. |

Bounced |
There is a response and the mapping is successful, but the client application processing is not successful. The BMF has found a rejection reason, so the mail has the status Bounced. Depending on the reason, the bouncing can be: · Hard bounced (Suspended) – these bounces indicate permanent problems, for example, if the e-mail address does not exist. The BMF suspends addresses with hard bounces and no more mails are sent to them. · Soft bounced – these bounces indicate temporary problems, for example, if the server or user quota is exceeded. A soft-bounced mail can be resent but only a limited number of times. If the limit of resending tries is reached, the mail address is hard-bounced. |

Unrecognized |
The following reasons cause a mail to be set to the status Unrecognized: · The client application processing is not successful and the rejection reason cannot be identified. · The mapping is not successful, so the BMF cannot identify the client application to which the incoming mail belongs. · The mail is valid but a rejection reason has been found.
