In the Enterprise Services Repository you differentiate between logon and display languages.

Display and Logon Language

Description

Logon language

Language in which the user interface text is displayed (for example, menu texts).

You select the logon language when you log on.

You can define a preferred logon language in the personal settings. This saves you having to specify the logon language each time.

Display Language for Objects

Language in which language-specific, translatable texts are displayed.

You can create language-specific, translatable texts for every object. This includes texts in description fields, as well as texts created with the documentation editor. Object names are however cross-language texts that are not translated.

You set your preferred display language in your personal settings.

Once you have opened an object, you can select the display language in the object editor. You can select from all languages for which translations are available and are permitted.

The logon and display languages are independent of each other. For example, you could decide to log on in English. All texts on the user interface are then displayed in English. However, you could then select German as the display language for one specific object so that the content of all description fields is in German.

Original Language

You can define an original language for all objects of a software component version. The selected language is then automatically set as the original language when you create new objects in that software component version. The original language is the default display language for objects in editing mode.

If you create a new object or change an existing object, the original language is selected as the display language.

To change the original language of the objects in a software component version, open the software component version, switch to change mode and under Object Properties, select the original language.
