You must create a software component and configure the system assignment for each KM system that you want to integrate into SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search. Import the KM indexes as models and assign the required UI areas to the KM properties.

Procedure

You must work through the following steps before you can create a search object connector of type KM Search.

  1. Launch the modeler.

  2. Create a software component for the search object connector.

    1. Choose   Software Components   Maintain Software Components   Create  .

    2. Specify a name of the customer-specific software component, for example Z_MYCOMPANY_KM, then choose Create and Save.

    3. Select a transport request.

    4. Finish the editing of the software components by choosing Save.

    Note Note

Stop using the existing software component SAP_KM delivered by SAP.

    End of the note.
  3. SAP recommends creating a further software component.

    Recommendation Recommendation

To prevent manual changes being lost during subsequent updates of KM models using the import function, SAP recommends creating a further superordinate software component in which you include your new software component for KM models. This ensures that your changes are kept in the event of updates.

    End of the recommendation.
  4. Configure a system assignment for the new software components (higher or lower software component) one after the other.

    1. Select a software component and choose Add in the details.

    2. Choose the KM system and choose Choose to add it to the software component.

  5. Import the KM indexes that you want to search in to SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search as models.

    1. Select the lower software component and choose Import.

    2. In the upper table, choose the KM system and in the lower table, choose the indexes that you want to import as models.

    3. Choose Import.

  6. Edit the model properties.

    1. In the higher software component, choose the model and choose Edit.

    2. In the Model Nodes step all KM properties are selected as model attributes by default.

    3. In the Node Response step, assign the UI areas in which the attributes are to appear on the Search UI to those attributes.

    Example Example

Assign the Title UI area to the DISPLAYNAME attribute. The value of the DISPLAYNAME KM property appears in the search results list as the title of the search hit.

    End of the example.

    Note Note

The text extracts that KM supports are automatically displayed in SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search.

    End of the note.

    Note Note

You can use an index for exactly one search object connector; you cannot select indexes that are already assigned to a search object connector.

    End of the note.
  7. To save the settings, choose Finish. You can also choose Previous to correct any incorrect settings, or Cancel to discard all the data you have entered.

  8. Continue with the Creating KM Search Object Connectors step.
