Rules Manager is a rule-centric application, based on SAP's Web Dynpro technology that provides a rule management environment. It allows business managers, administrators, functional users to modify business rules and effect changes in real time. Using the Rules Manager, one can add, edit or delete any of the rule artifacts such as rulesets, rules and decision tables without stopping the rule engine. The changes made to the rule artifacts take place instantaneously on the rule engine.

Access management, reporting services, and change approval mechanisms will enable organizations to perform rules asset management, having the security of managing their business rules as concisely as any other organizational asset.

Note Note

A user has to create the projects in the Rules Composer and deploy the projects to the application server to make the projects available in the rules manager. For more information about creating rules project in the Rules Composer, see Modelling Rules with Rules Composer.

End of the note.

The major features of the Rules Manager are:

Access Control

The access control mechanism determines access to the rules project in the Rules Manager. This mechanism ensures that unauthorized and inadvertent changes are not made to the rules project. The project can be retrieved from the repository only if a user has access to the project. A user needs to have permissions for the project in order to open the project in the Rules Manager. For more information about access control mechanism, see Setting Access Control for Business Project.

Editing Tool for Business Users

The Rules Manager provides business managers, administrators, and users with a tool to modify business rules and effect changes in real time. For more information about working with rules in the Rules Manager, see Tasks.

Version History

Business users can also check the version history of rules project to compare different versions. For more information see Viewing Version History and Comparing Versions.

Report Generation

Business users can generate reports of rulesets, rules and decision tables. For more information, see Viewing Reports.

Rules Deployment

The Rules Manager allows you to change and deploy business rules even as the application is running. This allows real time changes to business rules. For more information, see Testing Rules
