Procedure documentationWizard-Based Configuration for Business Process Management Locate this document in the navigation structure

After full installation, and before manual configuration, you can run the configuration wizard to initially set up the SAP NetWeaver Business Process Management (BPM). The configuration wizard saves you time and having to perform manual steps.

After you run the configuration wizard for the first time, you can then re-execute it from the NetWeaver Administrator (NWA) if you want to change the values you entered initially.

Caution Caution

If you upgrade from an older version or you have previously run the wizard and re-execute it, the wizard does not display the current values. Therefore, you need to enter all values again.

End of the caution.

After you run the configuration wizard, you still need to manually configure your SMTP server.

For more information about manual configuration, see Configuring Mail, Notification Messages and Forms Services.

Procedure

Starting the Configuration Wizard

To carry out the wizard-based initial setup for BPM, perform the following steps:

  1. Start the automated configuration tasks.

For more information, see Functional Unit Configuration.

  2. From the Functional Units table, select Process Server. Additional required functional units are automatically selected.

  3. To proceed with the configuration wizard, choose Enable Automatically.

The Configuration Wizard will now guide you through the automated configuration.

  4. To proceed with manual configuration, choose Disable and then Enable Manually.

    Note Note

You also choose this option if you want to re-execute the wizard in NWA.

    End of the note.
Re-executing the Configuration Wizard

To carry out the wizard-based initial setup for BPM, perform the following steps:

  1. Start your SAP NetWeaver Administrator at http://<host>:<httpport>/nwa

  2. Choose   Configuration Management   Scenarios   Configuration Wizard  .

  3. Choose All Configuration Tasks and then select BPM Configuration Tasks.

    Note Note

If the Configuration Wizard has already been started, choose Running Configuration Tasks.

    End of the note.
  4. Choose the Start pushbutton.

    Note Note

If the Configuration Wizard has already been executed, choose the Re-execute pushbutton. If the configuration session has been interrupted, choose the Take over session pushbutton to go on with the configuration tasks where you left them.

    End of the note.
Completing the Configuration Wizard

Following the BPM Configuration Tasks steps, enter the following data:

  1. Enter your password as an administrator. Next, enter and confirm a master password that allows you to execute the following steps on the engine.

  2. Default Properties

In the first step you configure the Locale and Timezone - for process context parameters of the data type's time and date, a default is defined for localization. These properties have no impact on the mail server connectivity, so choosing the Next pushbutton is usually sufficient.

  3. Mail Server Connectivity

In this step you configure a default mail server connection for the e-mails that are sent by BPM to notify when a new task is in the e-mail recipient's inbox.

Enter the following mail server connectivity data:

    • E-Mail Address (such as me@mail.com)

    • User (such as myuser)

    • Password

    Caution Caution

You can configure only one mail server to send the notification e-mails that are sent. If this server is down or not reachable, notifications will be lost. This can result in the deadline for a task not being met, and therefore cause a delay in the execution of the business process. If you rely on e-mail notifications, you need to ensure the provision of a reliable e-mail infrastructure.

    End of the caution.

To define the properties of the SMTP server that is used, you need to manually configure the Java Mail Service properties. For more information, see Configuring Mail, Notification Messages and Forms Services.

  4. Forms Server Connectivity

In this step you configure the authorizations to connect to a pop3 or imap server by BPM.

Enter the following mail server connectivity data:

    • Protocol (such as pop3)

    • E-Mail Address (such as me@mail.com)

    • Folder

You must create in advance a dedicated mail account for retrieving mails with attached offline forms. There should be one mail account for each engine that you use. The name of the inbox of this account (such as Inbox) is the name of the Folder in the Configuration wizard.

      Recommendation Recommendation

We recommend that you create a separate account for mails with offline forms. If you use your general mail client inbox, BPM will consider all mails with attachments in the inbox as mails with attached offline forms and will treat them as such. As a consequence, they will be deleted and you will not be able to read these attachments.

      End of the recommendation.
    • User (such as myuser)

    • Password

To define the properties of the pop3/imap server that is used, you need to manually configure the Java Mail Service properties. For more information, see Configuring Mail, Notification Messages and Forms Services.

  5. Notification Messages Configuration

In this step you define who receives a notification when a new or reassigned task is in the inbox – all potential processors or only the actual process of the task.

In addition, enter the URL (Base URL) used for e-mail messages links to the UWL and the task execution UI.

  6. Default Principal Mapping

In this step you define the desired mapping between users, roles, and groups. In general, all checkboxes should be selected.

    Note Note

Make sure the last checkbox which maps the BPM Service User to the ECM Caller role is selected because otherwise, you will not be able to access the ECM repository when designing your offline form process.

    End of the note.
  7. Choose the Next pushbutton.

    Note Note

After finishing your configuration tasks, you can either view the log of the configuration wizard or return to the configuration tasks list.

    End of the note.
