A portal desktop combines framework pages and portal themes into a single entity, which are later assigned to portal users through display rules. You create and edit portal desktop objects in the Desktop editor.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the Desktop editor in the default System Administration role.

  • At least read/write permission for the Portal Catalog folder in which you want to create or edit a portal desktop object.

  • At least read permission for the relevant framework pages and portal themes in the PCD (Portal Content Directory).

Procedure

Creating a Portal Desktop
  1. In the portal, navigate to   System Administration   Portal Display   Desktops & Display Rules  .

  2. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the folder in which you want to create a portal desktop object, choose   New   Portal Desktop  .

    The Desktop wizard opens.

  3. In the Portal Desktop Name field, enter a name for the portal desktop object.

  4. In the Portal Desktop ID field, enter a unique ID for the portal desktop object.

  5. Choose Next.

  6. Add framework pages to the desktop. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the relevant framework page, choose Add Framework Page to Portal Desktop.

  7. Choose Next.

  8. Add portal themes to the desktop. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the relevant theme, choose Add Theme to Portal Desktop..

  9. Add additional themes to the desktop to enable users to personalize their portal.

  10. To specify the default theme, select a row in the table and choose Set Default.

  11. Choose Next.

  12. In the summary pane, verify the details of the new portal desktop, and choose Finish.

The portal desktop object is created in the selected folder. You can access it later from the Portal Catalog for further editing.

Editing a Portal Desktop
  1. In the portal, navigate to   System Administration   Portal Display   Desktops & Display Rules  .

  2. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the portal desktop object that you want to edit, choose   Open   Desktop  .

    The Desktop editor opens and displays the framework pages and portal themes currently assigned to the selected portal desktop object. Choose Locate in Portal Catalog to find the assigned objects in the Portal Catalog tree.

  3. Add or remove framework pages and portal themes to or from the portal desktop. You may also specify a different active framework page and default portal theme.

  4. Save your changes.

Adding Themes to Desktops in EPC Baseline Configuration

In EPC baseline configuration, you cannot create new desktops but you can add themes to the default portal desktop and specify the default theme.

This functionality is not available in SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment.

  1. Navigate to   System Administration   Portal Display   Portal Desktop Management  .

  2. If your portal includes custom themes, you can add them to the desktop.

    From the Custom Themes dropdown list, select the theme and choose Add to Desktop.

  3. To set a theme as the default theme for the desktop, in the Default Theme for the Portal Desktop section, select the theme from the dropdown list and choose Set Default.

  4. To remove a theme from the desktop, select the theme and choose Remove.

    Note Note

    You cannot remove a theme that has been set as default. First set another theme as default, and then remove the relevant theme.
