You can use the Page editor to edit the page content and layout, as well as the property values of both the page and content objects. Use the link bar at the top of the editor to access secondary editors for defining page properties, assigning permissions, tracing delta links and defining different types of links and navigation from the page. If you navigate to another editor (for example, Permissions or Related Links) you can return to the Page editor by choosing Page from the link bar.

Note Note

To view the contents of a page without opening the Page editor, choose Preview from the context menu of the page in the Portal Catalog. A separate window opens to display the current status of the saved page.

End of the note.

Procedure

  1. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the page, choose   Open   Page  . The Page editor appears.

  2. Use the controls, content list, and layout pane to edit your page contents and layout, performing the following functions:

    More Information

Add an object to a page

See Adding Content to a Page.

Delete an object or multiple objects from a page

Select the appropriate rows and choose Remove.

Child objects do not appear in the navigation panel. When you remove a child object from a page, you render it inaccessible, unless you reinsert its source object.

If you decide not to remove the object, from the tool area, choose Refresh before saving the page.

Preview a page after adding or removing content

Choose the Preview button at the top of the editor.

This displays the current status of a page in the editor, not its status in the PCD.

Select or deselect all the objects on a page

Using the icon in the heading of the first column, choose Select All or Deselect All.

The Open button is disabled when more than one object is selected.

    Procedure

    More Information

View and edit the property values of a page and access the attributes of each property

Choose Properties from the link bar.

Use the arrow next to a property to view or edit certain property attributes. For information about attribute values, see Defining Property Attributes.

View and edit an object in the page

    Choose Open.

The Open button is disabled for unsaved, newly-added iViews. Choose Save to enable the Open button.

When editing a nested page, choosing Open displays any other pages and iViews belonging to that page. You can then edit the properties of all the nested objects, not only those of the page.

When you select the smallest unit on a page (iView) for editing, the Properties editor expands to the entire content area.

If an object has its own editor, such as a URL iView, choosing Open opens its object editor.

For more information about editing object properties, see Editing Object Properties.

View the relationships between a selected object and other objects in a delta link chain, including the source object

Choose Delta Link Tracer from the link bar.

The displayed page is read-only and is used to:

    • Display all objects that are affected if you edit the selected object.

    • Provide access to the source object.

For more information about delta link origins, see Tracing Delta Link Dependencies.

    Defining Runtime Functionality

    Function

    Procedure

    More Information

    Hide an object

Deselect its checkbox in the Visible column.

A hidden object is not displayed when the page first opens.

During personalization at runtime, portal users can access all the objects associated with the page (whether currently displayed or not), and can redefine any hidden object as visible.

Lock an object to the page

Select the checkbox in the Fixed column.

When an object is set to Fixed:

    • The checkbox in the Visible column is automatically selected.

    • The object is automatically displayed when the page first opens.

    • At runtime, portal users can minimize the object in the content area, but cannot remove it from the page during personalization.

    Editing Page Layout

    Function

    Procedure

    More Information

Change the location of an object within its container.

Either drag the object to the new location in the layout area, or in the Page Content and Layout Settings table, select the object and choose Move Up or Move Down.

Place a selected object in a different layout container.

Drag the object to the new location in the layout area. You can also select the item that you want to move in the Page Content and Layout Settings table, and from the Container dropdown list, select the container to which you want to move the object.

Since each column contains only one container, this action is not applicable to a page based on a one-column layout.

View the page layouts assigned to the page.

From the Current Layout dropdown list, select the layout that you want to view. The page adjusts accordingly.

Add layouts that were not originally assigned to the page, remove layouts that you do not want associated with a page, or change the default layout.

Choose Add/Remove Layouts and revise the layout as needed in theAdd/Remove Layouts dialog box.

    Creating Portal Pages.

Note Note

You cannot add content to, or remove content from, pages that originate from external repositories. To add content to a page that originates from an external repository, create a new page, add the copied page to that page, and then add additional content.
