Procedure documentationAdding Content to a Page Locate this document in the navigation structure

You use the Page editor to add content to the page and to define the its layout. Content that you add to a page is automatically displayed in the page content list.

Note Note

You cannot add content to, or remove content from, pages that originate from external repositories. To add content to a page that originates in an external repository, create a new page, add the copied page to that page, and then add additional content.

End of the note.

Prerequisites

  • The page to which you are adding content is not locked for editing by another user.

  • All pages and iViews to be added to the page are available in the Portal Catalog or can be uploaded from a back-end system.

  • You have write permissions for the page and the content that you want to add.

  • You are familiar with the Isolation Method of iViews and Navigation Caching.

Procedure

  1. In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the page to which you want to add content, choose   Open   Page  . The Page editor appears.

  2. Add content as follows:

    • To add a page or iView from the Portal Catalog, choose   Add Page/iView To Page   Delta Link   or   Add Page/iView To Page   Copy   from the context menu of the object to be added.

For more information, see Adding an Object as a Delta Link or as a Copy.

      Caution Caution

Mixing Web Dynpro iViews and portal pages generates a warning message concerning the isolation method of the iViews. For more information, see Isolation Method of iViews.

      End of the caution.
    • To create a new iView for the page, choose   New   iView from Template   or   New   iView from Remote Source   from the button above the content list. For more information, see Creating iViews from Remote Sources.

    • Drag the page or iView to be added from the Portal Catalog to the open page and drop it in the appropriate container.

The page or iView is added to the page content list. It is also assigned to the container (column) at the top-left corner of the page. If this container already contains an object, the new object is added after the existing object. You can then move it to a different container by selecting the container from the dropdown list in the Container column of the object row or by dragging it to the other container.

  3. You can define the behavior of each object added to the page, as follows:

    • Select the Visible checkbox to indicate whether the object is displayed when the page first opens

    • Select the Fixed checkbox to indicate whether portal users can minimize the object at runtime, but cannot remove it from the page through personalization.

    • Change the location of an object within its container by dragging the object up or down within the list.

    • Move an object to a different location by dragging it to the target container.

    Note Note

You can view the ID of an object by holding the cursor over the object name in the page content list.

    End of the note.

For more information, see Editing Page Content and Layout.

  4. You can preview the page in a new window by choosing the Preview button at the top of the page.

  5. When you have finished, choose Save.

More Information

After creating and editing a page and its properties, you can perform other activities that enhance the usability of the page and its content. The following links describe these activities:

  • Defining Related Links

You can create a list of links that represent iViews and pages related to a given iView or page.

  • Assigning Dynamic Navigation iViews

You can assign context-sensitive iViews that appear in the portal navigation panel and enable further navigation into the data displayed in the content area.

  • Setting Permissions in the Permissions Editor

You can assign permissions to any entity that appears in the Portal Catalog, such as roles, worksets, folders, or pages. Child objects (iViews) inherit permissions from their page.

  • Object-Based Navigation

You can assign dynamic role-based iViews that are derived from business scenarios.
