Use

The Portal Catalog provides a central access point to portal objects stored in the Portal Content Directory (PCD) and in the Generic Portal Application Layer (GPAL) repositories. Displayed to the left of the Portal Content Studio, the Portal Catalog - called Portal Content - enables you to organize the content of your portal in a structured hierarchy to facilitate storage and management.

The Portal Catalog is shipped with a predefined structure and content, including preconfigured administration roles. The portal administrators can modify that content according to the specific business needs of the organization. Administration permissions can be delegated on the structure so that the content displayed is filtered according to the permissions assigned to a specific portal administrator.

Structure

The following illustration shows the layout of the Portal Catalog as part of the Portal Content Studio:

The Portal Content panel is divided into the following areas, organized in a tile-like structure:

Description

Find functions

Provide a Basic search, an Advanced Find option and a Find & Replace option. For more information, see Searching the Portal Catalog and Changing Property Values of Multiple Objects .

Portal Content tree

A structured list of folders and content objects available in the PCD and GPAL repositories. The contents displayed are filtered according to assigned permissions. Each object type has a unique icon for easy identification. When you select an object, its ID is shown as a tooltip.

Detailed View

Displays the full hierarchical structure of the contents of the object selected in the Portal Content tree or in the My Objects list, including views and services used in workcenter roles. This tile is useful for reusing content in multiple roles and pages. You can:

  • Reuse objects in roles, worksets and pages that are currently open in their editors

  • Use the Copy ID option in the context menu of an object to copy its PCD ID to the Clipboard

  • Use the Copy URL option to copy the URL of the object for pasting as needed to the Clipboard or to a different portal framework

My Objects

Enables direct access to a personalized list of frequently-used objects. You can:

  • Group the objects in the My Objects tree, and reorder and rename them as needed.

  • You can drill down into the contents of a folder, viewing the entire tree as you would in the Portal Catalog

  • Perform all the standard Portal Catalog actions on each object in the My Objects list.

For more information, see Using My Objects .

The Portal Catalog is a hierarchical structure of folders that is filtered according to the type of administration task being carried out. When working in the Portal Content Studio, the following types of content objects may be visible:

  • Roles

  • Worksets

  • Layouts

  • Pages

  • iViews

  • Business objects and operations

  • Templates (iViews, pages, system, and layouts)

Unique icons next to the object name indicate its object type (see Portal Catalog Icons - Portal Content Management ). You perform different actions on the objects in the Portal Catalog by choosing the appropriate option in the object's context menu. For more information about the available options, see Managing Objects in the Portal Catalog .

Using special editors and tools not associated with the Portal Catalog, you can also view and edit additional object types - such as systems, portal desktops, portal themes, and rule collections - from the Portal Catalog structure.

Note

The Portal Catalog does not display objects that are embedded in other objects, such as iViews assigned to a page or pages assigned to a role. You can view the objects by selecting the parent object in the Portal Catalog and opening the Detailed View tile. To access and edit embedded objects, open the parent object for editing, and then access the embedded object listed in the editing area. For more information, see Editing Portal Objects .
