What Are Portal Content Objects?

Definition

The infrastructure of SAP NetWeaver Portal includes a number of different objects, such as roles, worksets, pages, and iViews. The different administration tools for the portal access these objects and enable you to edit them.

All these objects together form the content object model. Objects share the following features:

They can be accessed and viewed with a content browser: the Portal Catalog.
They can be maintained through a common user interface: the Portal Content Studio.
They can be transported. See Transporting Portal Objects .
They can be assigned permissions using Access Control Lists. See Portal Permissions .

The following content objects are used in the portal:

Worksets	Creating and Editing Freestyle Roles and Worksets
Pages	Creating and Editing Portal Pages
iViews and iView templates	Creating and Editing iViews
System and system templates	Creating Systems

The objects are related, for example:

A role can contain references to worksets, iViews, and pages as a parent object.
A page can contain certain iViews.
An iView can contain a reference to a system from which it reads certain data at runtime.
