Editing Object PropertiesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

You have the appropriate permissions for editing a folder or portal object. See Permission Levels .

Context

You use the Properties editor to view and modify the property values and attributes of objects and folders in the Portal Catalog. Properties are parameters used to configure and personalize each portal object, making it unique from other objects. The properties listed in the editor include object-specific properties as well as properties that are generic to all object types.

The Properties editor does not allow you to add new properties to an object. The properties themselves are defined in the portal component of the object.

Portal administrators with appropriate permissions can edit portal content by customizing the property values in portal objects; for example, to modify the default height of an iView.

The Properties editor serves all object types; however, certain object types - such as roles and pages - also utilize specialized editors, which enable you to define the content and layout of the object. For more information, see Editing Portal Objects .

Note

Any manual changes that you make to a property in an object that has a delta link to a source object breaks the inheritance between the two objects for that property. This means that any future changes you make to the same property in the source object will not be updated in the current object.

Any property that has been manually changed and no longer inherits its value from its source object is marked with a "not equals" icon ( Broken delta link) next to the property name. Properties listed without the icon indicate that the current property value is inherited. For information about resetting manually modified properties, see Resetting Properties .

Procedure

  1. Open the Properties editor for the object:

    • In the Portal Catalog, from the context menu of the object, choose Start of the navigation path Open Next navigation step Properties End of the navigation path.

    • In the open editor of the object, from the link bar, choose Properties .

The editor opens with a list of the Basic properties displayed. To show all of the properties defined for the object, choose All in the row below the link bar.

  2. To activate the editor - to allow you to edit properties and attributes - choose Modify Properties at the top right. Properties that can be modified are shown in white in the Value column; those that cannot be modified are shown in blue. Attributes that can be edited have an Edit attributes link in the Attributes column; those that cannot be modified have a View attributes link.

  3. In the Basic list of properties, you can change the value of a property by entering different text or by selecting the value from the dropdown list, as appropriate.

  4. In the list of All properties, you can filter the list in two ways:

    • From the Show Category dropdown list, choose the category whose properties you want to view or edit. You can also use this dropdown list in conjunction the Find Property field to locate a specific property (clicking Go after entering the search string).

    • Use the Show Properties dropdown list to filter the properties according to the Required or Editable categories, or to show All properties.

  5. Modify the properties as needed, and save the changes that you make.

    • To view a description of a property, hover the cursor over the name of the property in the property list.

    • To view additional attributes for a property, click Edit in the Attributes column. For more information, see Defining Property Attributes .

    • To view the delta link chain of an object, open the Delta Link Tracer . For more information, see Tracing Delta Link Dependencies .

    Note
    • You may not be able to modify certain properties as they may be defined as read-only by the content developer.
