Transporting PermissionsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

The portal provides the capability to transport permissions for portal content in the PCD and security zones from one portal to another. For example, it is also useful for transporting permissions from a test environment to productive environment; typically when the users, group, and role data is identical on both systems.

The permission transport mechanism described in this section uses an XML file, which contains the exported ACL structure in your source system. To import the ACL structure to any target system, you then upload the XML file.

Note

When transporting PCD objects between portals using the Transport Package Editor, you can include portal permissions of with the content selected for export (see Transporting Portal Objects ).

Prerequisites
  • The user base in the source system and in the target system is the same.

  • The portal content and security zones defined in the XML should already exist in the target system. For additional information on how the import handles objects that are defined in the portal, but not in the XML, and vice versa, see Importing Permissions .

Activities

The process for transporting permissions involves the following:

  1. Exporting the permission structure from a source system to an XML file. See Exporting Permissions .

  2. Uploading the XML file to a target system. See Importing Permissions .

Note

You can view the entire ACL structure using an external tool. See Viewing Permission Structures in the Portal .
