Setting Up GRMG Monitoring of the ICMLocate this document in the navigation structure

Prerequisites

The URL monitored by GRMG Lite is a service of the Internet Communication Framework (ICF), which must be active. To activate the service, proceed as follows:

  1. Start transaction SICF.

  2. If it does not happen automatically, call the ICF hierarchy with the hierarchy type SERVICE by choosing ( Execute).

  3. In the Virtual Hosts / Services tree, expand the entry Start of the navigation path default_host Next navigation step sap Next navigation step bc Next navigation step ccms Next navigation step monitoring Next navigation step GRMG_APP End of the navigation path.

  4. Activate the service by selecting the service and choosing Start of the navigation path Service/Host Next navigation step Activate End of the navigation path from the menu.

Context

Use GRMG Lite to monitor the availability of the Internet Communication Manager (ICM) of an SAP NetWeaver Application Server for ABAP.

Note

The ICM in an SAP NetWeaver AS for Java is already included in the standard GRMG monitoring.

Procedure

  1. Start transaction GRMG. The Generic Request and Message Generator screen appears.

  2. Choose the button Start of the navigation path Edit/Delete Next navigation step Create GRMG Lite Scenario End of the navigation path, and confirm the subsequent query.

  3. On the following screen, Create GRMG Scenario, enter details about the name and description of the scenario and the component in the Scenario Specifications group box. In this way, you determine the name under which the scenario is displayed in the Alert Monitor, and the MTE classes to which the corresponding nodes belong. You can enter the following data:

    Input Field

    Meaning

    Scenario Name

    Determines the MTE class of the monitoring context (the MTE class of the monitoring context is GRMG_<scenario name>)

    Version (Scenario)

    Field, which you can leave empty, since GRMG has automatic version numbering

    Description (Context Name)

    Name of the monitoring context and therefore of the root node under which the scenario is displayed in the Alert Monitor

    URL/RFC Destination

    In the input field The scenarios uses, choose the radio button A URL.

    Component name

    Determines the MTE class of the summary node ( GRMG_<scenario name>_<component name>) and of the monitoring object ( GRMG_<component name>_OBJ)

    Version (Component)

    Field, which you can leave empty, since GRMG has automatic version numbering

    Description (Superordinate Name)

    Name of the summary node and therefore of the subtree that contains the availability and the status messages for the monitored URL

  4. In the HTTP Test Method group box, choose the HTTP HEAD entry; choose the  Create button.

  5. On the Edit GRMG Customizing screen, make the following entry in the URL/Destination input field: http://<Host>:<Port>/sap/bc/ccms/monitoring/GRMG_APP

    Note

    With the usual configuration, the port is the standard port for HTTP. You can determine this, for example, by calling transaction SMICM and then choosing the menu path Start of the navigation path Goto Next navigation step Parameters Next navigation step Display End of the navigation path and finding the port listed under Services for the entry PROT=HTTP.

  6. In the Editable Properties table, enter the connection data for the user with which you want to log on to the above service. Enter the following Editable Properties:

    Property Name

    Type

    Property Value

    LOGON_USER

    <user>

    Note

    The user requires only restricted authorizations, such as User CSMREG.

    LOGON_PASSWORD

    PW

    <password>

    USE_BASIC_AUTHENTICATION

    X

    LOGON_CLIENT

    <user's client>

  7. In addition to the availability itself, you can also determine the response time of the Web site (see Measuring the Runtime of Availability Monitoring with the GRMG).

  8. Save your entries and exit the editing screen by choosing   Exit.

  9. To start the scenario, select the corresponding row , and choose the Start button.

Results

You have set up and started the availability monitoring of the ICM.
