In the standard configuration, files are displayed along with a symbol in the explorer. The MIME type of a file determines which graphic is displayed as its symbol.
The MIME types defined in the configuration are used in other parts of the configuration (see Online Editing and Local Editing , and MIME Types for Online Preview ).
The MIME handler service is activated.
Many MIME types are already entered in the standard delivery. In addition, you can register your own MIME types.
The configuration of the MIME types includes the following parameters:

Locale, Resource Bundle File and Resource Key parameters form the translatable descriptions of the MIME types.
In the standard delivery, the most important MIME types have already been allocated symbols. In the configuration, you can assign symbols to additional MIME types or specify symbols that you want to appear in place of the standard symbols.

To extend the list of MIME types, choose Content Management → Utilities → MIME Types.
