Use

This guide provides information about system setup after installation.

1. Planning Your Configuration

You configure your installed functional units in the functional unit configuration tool of your SAP NetWeaver CE system. The functional unit configuration tool offers one or multiple configuration tasks for the functional units of the usage types that you have installed.

Taking Pre-Existing Installations into Account

It is possible that you have one of the following functional units already installed in your system landscape. If you continue to use them then they should already be configured in your system landscape and you therefore do not need to configure them on your SAP NetWeaver CE system. Additional information is given in the following table:

Recommendations and Impact on SAP NetWeaver Configuration for Composition Environment

If Alternative Product is Installed

If Alternative Product is Not Installed

System Landscape Directory (SLD)

(multiple)

The SLD is always available after your SAP NetWeaver 7.3 installation because it is part of the Java Application Server. However, SAP recommends that you use a pre-existing SLD in your system landscape.

For more detailed recommendations, see SAP Community Network (SDN) at https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-sldInformation published on SAP site Planning Guide - System Landscape Directory .

When executing the configuration task for the functional unit SLD, choose remote to register the SAP NetWeaver 7.3 system that was just installed with the SLD that was already installed.

When executing the configuration task for the functional unit SLD choose local to configure the SLD delivered with SAP NetWeaver 7.3.

SAP NetWeaver Development Infrastructure (NWDI)

Multiple, for example:

  • SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (as of SPS13)

  • SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 EHP1

  • SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2

If you continue to use NWDI of the alternative product, skip the NWDI configuration tasks of your SAP NetWeaver 7.3 system.

After configuring your SAP NetWeaver 7.3 system successfully, set up development tracks in the system of your alternative product.

More information: Setting Up Tracks Using the Configuration Template

Use the NWDI of SAP NetWeaver 7.3 if the corresponding product is not installed.

The configuration of the NWDI requires SLD either already installed locally with SAP NetWeaver 7.3 or installed remotely in your system landscape. Choose local or remote as appropriate when executing the NWDI configuration task.

Overview of Configuration Tools

You must apply one of the following methods when configuring SAP NetWeaver:

  • Functional Unit Configuration UI

After installing SAP NetWeaver, configure your system initially with the Functional Unit Configuration UI. On this UI you get an overview of the functional units that are already installed on your SAP NetWeaver system. The tool identifies dependent configuration tasks of other functional units and - when available - executes automatic configuration templates in the correct order.

  • Configuration Wizard UI

Some functional units offer optional configuration tasks. During your initial configuration you can decide whether you need this configuration in your development scenario. If automatic optional configuration is supported, you will find the corresponding configuration tasks on the configuration wizard UI.

  • Manual Configuration

For some functional units you need to configure system settings manually. These system settings can be either mandatory or optional. If there is no automatic configuration available you will be informed by the Functional Unit Configuration UI that the selected functional unit may require manual configuration.

2. Configuring Composition Environment

SAP NetWeaver CE distinguishes between the following configuration phases:

  1. Configuring Mandatory Components .

The Application Server Java, the System Landscape Directory, and Business Process Management are required for all development scenarios. Nevertheless, parts of the configuration may be optional depending on your requirements.

  2. Configuring Additional Components .

Depending on your development scenario, you might install additional components, for example, the Enterprise Services Repository. Installing such components usually requires that you configure these additional components, or components that already exist, for example, to connect to the component that has been installed in addition.

  3. Configuration Tasks after Your System Landscape Is Set Up .

When you have finished the configuration of the mandatory components and the additional components you need for your development scenario, all required components should be ready to run and each component must be enabled to connect to others as required. There are, however, some remaining configuration tasks to fine-tune your SAP NetWeaver CE system further, or for security settings.
