You use this activity to define planned production standards for shop floor processes. These values are planned standards only, and are not actual values for actions on the shop floor. With these values, you can compare your planned rates, yields, and times with actual values on the shop floor. This helps you to determine gaps between planned and actual results more precisely, gives feedback on your processes, and allows you to improve your yields and your time-to-market.

This activity allows you to do the following:

  • Set the following planned production standards:

    • Production rates

    • Yields

    • Machine setup time

    • Machine wait time

    • Standard cycle time

    Note Note

A standard can apply to more than one level. A routing-level standard overrides an operation-level standard, and a material-routing-level standard overrides both routing-level and operation-level standards.

    End of the note.
  • Set standards for the following levels:

    • Operation

These standards apply to any routing that contains this operation.

      Note Note

The system applies the new standards to all versions of the operation.

      End of the note.
    • Routing

These standards apply to a specific routing where workers perform a specific operation.

    • Material

These standards apply when operators work a certain material. These standards are applied to each new SFC number created for the material after the standards were configured.

    • Material-Routing

These standards apply to each operation or step on the routing assigned to the material.

      Note Note

If a standards parameter is not specified for an operation or step when the standards record is initially created at this level, then the system uses the value specified for the operation or step at another level, using the following priority sequence:

      1. Material-Operations

      2. Routing

      3. Operation

      End of the note.
    • Material-Operations

These standards apply to an operation or step that belongs to any routing for a material. Once operations are added through routing or by adding operations directly, and a standards parameter is not specified for an operation-step at the Material-Operations level, the corresponding Operation level parameter value is used.

Fields

The following tables describe fields requiring explanation:

Field

Description

Cum Cycle Time

The cumulative standard cycle time for all of the operations on the specified routing

Note that this field is disabled for Operation and Material standards level.

Cum Yield

The cumulative planned yield for the specified routing

Note that this field is disabled for Operation and Material standards level.

Operation

The operation for the standards source

Note that this field is disabled for Material standards level

Production Rate

The production rate standard for the operation or the material

Planned Yield (%)

The planned yield standard for the operation or the material expressed as a percentage

Setup Time

The setup time standard for the operation or the material

Wait Time

The wait time standard for the operation or the material

Standard Cycle Time

The standard cycle time for the operation or the material

Add Operations

Displays a list of all available operations in the site that can be added for the Material-Operations source

Note that this button is only displayed if the standard source is Material-Operations.

Add Via Routing

Displays a list of available routings in the site that can be selected for the Material-Operations source

Field

Description

Production Rate Qty

The quantity rate at which product is produced at the operation

Along with the Time field and the time unit, specifies a production rate standard for this row

Note Note

This value represents the quantity of the rate, in other words, the value for x in the statement: x units per y hours.

End of the note.

Time

The time unit rate at which product is produced at the operation

Along with the Production Rate Qty field and the time unit, specifies a production rate standard for this row

Note Note

This value represents the time of the rate, in other words, the value for y in the statement: x units per y hours.

End of the note.

Hours (default): x units per y hours

Minutes: x units per y minutes

Seconds: x units per y seconds

Planned Yield (%)

The planned yield, or expected good, standard for this selection

Note Note

Enter this value as a percentage. Do not use the percent sign.

End of the note.

Setup Time

The setup time standard or time defined to setup the operation or resource, for the operation before product can be produced for this selection

Hours (default)

Minutes

Seconds

Wait Time

The waiting time standard, or time defined before product can be for this selection

Hours (default)

Minutes

Seconds

Standard Cycle Time

The standard cycle time or cumulative time product is produced for this selection

Hours (default)

Minutes

Seconds

Calculate

This button initializes the Standard Cycle Time field based on the following calculation: (Production Rate Time / Production Rate Quantity) + Standard Wait Time.

The validations for the Production Rate Time, Production Rate Quantity, and Standard Wait Time fields are the same for the Calculate button as for the Apply action.

ERP Standards

Field

Description

Standard Value Key

Specifies the key which identifies the set of Key Value fields for the routing or material-routing level only

You define values in the Standard Value Key Maintenance (see Standard Value Key Maintenance).

Note that you cannot delete or modify Key Value fields for which labor data has already been collected.

Source

The value field source label is determined by the field label specified in Standard Value Key Maintenance.

Time Unit

Hour (default): Indicates that the value is measured in hours

Minute: Indicates that the value is measured in minutes

Second: Indicates that the value is measured in seconds

Note that ERP Standards tab page is displayed only for Routing or Material-Routing levels.

Integration

You can use the Earned Standards feature to view the setup time and run time scheduling standards (see Earned Standards Plug-In).
