You can group child parts or subassemblies of phantom component according to your convenience. It is useful within the context of a large, complicated product.

Generally phantom assemblies are not made or sold (that is done using a higher-level, or parent, part number).

Phantom assembly components are parts that have a bill of material (BOM), but are not usually produced with a production order. They are produced as part of a parent assembly. The material requirements for a production order include all components of the phantom component, but phantom component is not included. This allows a more structured organization of the bill of material, without adding more work orders or stocked assemblies.

You can add a phantom component to a BOM on the Component Detail screen in the BOM Maintenance activity.

It will have an assembly sequence and the component type Phantom. Once it is saved, you can add phantom component members.

You can create a nested structure in which a phantom component has component members underneath it and one of the component members is a phantom component with component members underneath it.

Integration

  • You can receive phantom BOM components from SAP ERP using SAPMEINT or create them in BOM Maintenance (see BOM Maintenance).

  • You can assemble the phantom component and its members in the Assembly Point or As-Built Configuration activity (see Assembly Point (Assemble Components), As-Built Configuration).

  • You can view phantom components in the BOM Report, Device History Report or As Built Summary Report.

  • SAP ME does not confirm phantom components to SAP ERP once built.

Features

  • The phantom component or a phantom component member can have its assembly data type assigned at the material or BOM component level.

  • A phantom component member can be changed into a normal component by removing it and then adding it back again without identifying a Phantom Component Assembly Sequence. A phantom component cannot be changed into a normal component until all of its members have been removed.

  • A BOM template can be added as a phantom component.
