An electronic document, containing instructions, pictures, drawings, or other visualizations to demonstrate to an operator how to perform a task at a manufacturing process or resource. These documents provide important characteristics about the setup, procedure, process steps, and expected results at the manufacturing operation.
You can view work instructions from a POD by choosing a button associated with the Work Instruction List or Work Instruction Viewer (see Work Instruction List and Work Instruction Viewer).
Work instructions can be displayed automatically and manually. For more information, see Setting Up Work Instructions.
A work instruction record can have the following attributes:
Status
Required
Current Version
Log Viewing
Change Alert
Type

There are two types of work instructions:
Text
Plain text (up to 1024 characters) entered in the Text field of Work Instruction Maintenance
URL
An HTML browser-compatible file stored in a folder managed by Microsoft IIS or another web server product

In order for a work instruction to be accessible from a POD, the work instruction must be associated to one or more of the following SAP ME objects:
Customer order
Material
Material group
Operation
Resource
Resource type
Routing
SFC number
Shop order
Step ID
Work center

Caution
If a work instruction is associated with multiple objects, all of the objects must be in effect in the POD for the work instruction to be viewed.
